Patent number: 9441458Abstract: Wellbore devices for use in filtration, wellbore isolation, production control, lifecycle management and wellbore construction may include at least a first and a second shape-memory material each having an altered geometric position and each an original geometric position. Each shape-memory material may include a polyurethane material held in the altered geometric run-in position at a temperature below glass transition temperature (Tg), where the Tgs and/or the respective slope changes of the first and second polyurethane materials are different. Once the wellbore device is in place downhole and the first and second shape-memory materials are subjected to temperatures above their Tgs, the materials will deploy and expand to recovered geometric positions at or near their original geometric positions to perform their filtration, isolation, control or other function. These deployments or expansions may occur at different times or rates.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2012Date of Patent: September 13, 2016Assignee: BAKER HUGHES INCORPORATEDInventors: Nicholas Carrejo, Michael H. Publication number: 20150144328Abstract: The disclosed downhole gas and solids separator includes a suspended helical flighting member for efficient downhole separation of both gases and solids from a hydrocarbon production stream. Centrifugal force, provided by the flighting member, accelerates the coalescence of like materials to enhance separation of both gases and solids within the separator. Centrifugal force urges solids to the outer wall of the separator and gases toward the center, where passageways are designed to allow solids to efficiently migrate toward and accumulate at the bottom of the separator while simultaneously allowing gases to efficiently rise out of the separator device.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 9, 2014Publication date: May 28, 2015Inventor: Troy Botts

Patent number: 9016365Abstract: A sand control screen assembly selectively positionable within a wellbore. The sand control screen assembly comprises a pipe having an internal flow path, an external fluid collection subassembly in fluid communication with the internal flow path, a filter medium disposed in a fluid path between the exterior of the sand control screen assembly and the internal flow path, a biasing mechanism, configured to bias the fluid collection subassembly towards a wall of the wellbore, disposed between the fluid collection subassembly and the pipe, and a retaining mechanism configured to release the biasing mechanism in response to a trigger.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2012Date of Patent: April 28, 2015Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: James Jun Kang, Aaron James Bonner, Michael Fripp

Patent number: 9010417Abstract: An assembly of screens made of connected joints with exterior bypasses that span the threaded connections among the joints features common fluid connections for the bypasses adjacent joint threaded ends that are connected with a coupling. A mandrel spans from one joint to the next inside the threaded coupling and is sealed to the respective bases pipes on opposed ends of the coupling. At each end of the mandrel the surrounding base pipe has openings from the common fluid connection where the bypasses terminate to define an annular flow path between pairs of common fluid connections. The bypasses can have slanted gravel outlet passages or no gravel openings at all. The bypasses can span over screen or blank pipe with an option to mount a shroud over the generally parallel bypasses.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2012Date of Patent: April 21, 2015Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: Luis A. Publication number: 20150060059Abstract: A technique facilitates detection of specific constituents in a well fluid as it is produced from a reservoir. The technique employs a screen assembly having a base pipe and a filter media coupled with the base pipe. An access opening is provided in the screen assembly for insertion of a tracer into a region between the base pipe and the filter media. The tracer is then secured in the region between the base pipe and the filter media. The technique enables selection and application of specific, interchangeable tracers while in the field, e.g. at a well site.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 29, 2014Publication date: March 5, 2015Inventors: Michael D. Publication number: 20150034301Abstract: A well screen for use in a subterranean well can include a loose filter media, a sandstone, a square weave mesh material, a foam, and/or a nonmetal mesh material. A method of installing a well screen in a subterranean well can include dispersing a material in a filter media of the well screen, after the well screen has been installed in the well, thereby permitting a fluid to flow through the filter media. A method of constructing a well screen can include positioning a loose filter media in an annular space between a base pipe and a shroud, so that the filter media filters fluid which flows through a wall of the base pipe.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 18, 2014Publication date: February 5, 2015Inventors: Nicholas A. Patent number: RE46286Abstract: A downhole mixing tool and method for removing sand and other debris from a wellbore which combines the sand with a treatment fluid so that the sand is lifted to the surface of the well for removal. The tool includes a chamber into which the sand laden fluid is drawn and the treatment fluid is introduced. Ports into the chamber are arranged to provide a pressure drop to draw the sand laden fluid into the chamber and a mixing time within the chamber before sand laden fluid of lower viscosity exits the chamber to travel to the surface. Additional features include blades on the tool for breaking up obstructions prior to being drawn into the chamber and a lubricating line through the tool to introduce lubricating fluid to the blades.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2016Date of Patent: January 24, 2017Assignee: SERVWELL ENGINEERING LIMITEDInventors: Richard Alvin Armell, Ruairidh Andrew Cooper
