  • Patent number: 10968720
Abstract: There are described downhole devices, methods and other apparatus, which may be used to generate energy, monitor fluids and/or provide control signals or otherwise trigger for actuation. The devices, methods, etc. may provide improved autonomy and/or accuracy, while at the same time minimise any effect on the operation of a well. Such devices and methods may be particularly useful downhole and in remote locations. An example of a device comprises a generating material having a fluid contact surface, that contact surface being configured to be in contact with a fluid downhole. The generating material may be configured to generate an electric charge at the material in response a fluid at the contact surface. In some examples, the device further comprises a signal source configured to provide a signal in response to a generated electric charge at the generating material.

  • Patent number: 9441440
Abstract: A downhole tool comprising a nested sleeve moveable from a closed position to an open position following actuation of a fluid control device. The fluid control device may selectively permit fluid flow, and thus pressure communication, into the annular space to cause a differential pressure across the shifting sleeve, and thereby moving the shifting sleeve to an open position. A static plug seat is positioned in the tubing or casing upwell of the downhole tool. When the shifting sleeve is opened, fluid flow is established through the static plug seat, allowing a dissolvable or disintegrable ball or other plug to engage the plug seat, preventing fluid flow past the plug seat to the opened downhole tool, thereby permitting pressurization of the tubing or casing, such as for a pressure test. Disintegration of the ball allows fluid communication to be re-established with the downhole tool, permitting fluid to flow through the tubing for subsequent operations.

  • Patent number: 9394909
Abstract: A submersible pump housing with seal bleed ports is provided. In an implementation, a pump housing for electric submersible pumps (ESPs), such as a centrifugal ESP, has end seals that are located inside or further inboard toward the high thrust pressure generated by the pump, than the threaded ends of the pump housing. The inboard seals contain and seal off the pump pressure and spare the threaded regions that are more pressure-vulnerable from the pump's high pressure interior, thereby increasing the pressure rating of the entire housing. Leak ports or bleed ports are provided further outboard of the end seals to relieve fluid seeping from inside the submersible pump housing past each end seal. A plate may be added to direct small amounts of fluid escaping from the end seals away from the wellbore casing in which an ESP is situated.

  • Patent number: 9359877
Abstract: A single trip multizone time progressive well treating method and apparatus that provides a means to progressively stimulate individual zones through a cased or open hole well bore. The operator can use pre-set timing devices to progressively treat each zone up the hole. At each zone the system automatically opens a sliding sleeve and closes a frangible flapper, at a preselected point in time. An adjustable preset timing device is installed in each zone to allow preplanned continual frac operations for all zones. An optional “Stand-Down-Mode” can be integrated into the timing system so that if pumping stops the timers go into a sleep mode until the pumping resumes. The apparatus can consist of three major components: a packer, a timing pressure device, and a sliding sleeve/isolation device. The packer may be removed.
