Patent number: 8893799Abstract: A safety valve for an effluent-production installation, the safety valve comprising a longitudinal shell in which there extends a production tube defining an inside volume for effluent flow. The tube is movable in translation inside the shell in an axial direction between an advanced position in which effluent flow is authorized from the bottom of the installation towards the surface, and a retracted position in which effluent flow is prevented. The valve includes a connection duct between a feed line for feeding at least one additive from the surface and an injection line for injecting the additive downhole, a safety plug being provided in the connection duct in order to close or open the duct depending on whether the production tube is in its retracted position or its advanced position.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2012Date of Patent: November 25, 2014Assignee: Weatherford/Lamb, Inc.Inventor: Serge Garay

Publication number: 20090159264Abstract: A hydraulic sleeve valve that includes a valve position indication system that provides an indication that the valve has reached a predetermined position, such as, for example, the fully opened or fully closed condition. The hydraulic sleeve valve may include a bypass relief system and may also provide a valve control fluid circulation function to filter or otherwise manipulate the control fluid.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 12, 2009Publication date: June 25, 2009Inventors: Dewayne M. Turner, Richard J. Ross

Patent number: 6811353Abstract: An aquifer recharge valve assembly comprises a valve movable along the interior of a pipe section to open and close aquifer recharge openings through the pipe section. The position of the valve controls the extent to which the recharge openings are available for delivery of recharge water into the aquifer. The valve may be a seamless resilient cylinder which expands due to well head pressure to assist in sealing the recharge openings when the valve is closed.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 2002Date of Patent: November 2, 2004Inventor: Kent R. Publication number: 20040163815Abstract: A reciprocating pump vent-dump and methods of use for utilization in the hydrocarbon industry. The device is preferably used with barrel pumps although it may be used with tubing pumps. The device is positioned at the bottom of the wellbore immediately above the stinger and immediately below above the standing valve and comprises a sliding piston within an outer housing. The device may be opened pulling upwards on the pump drive mechanism thereby allowing fluid within the production tubing to drain back into the formation as long as the pump drive mechanism is held up. The device closes when the pump is returned to normal operation. The method of spotting chemicals requires a pre-measured quantity of chemicals at the surface which is sucked into the tubing string when the valve is opened followed by a pre-measured quantity of make-up fluid which is drawn into the well thereby placing the chemicals at the required point.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 5, 2003Publication date: August 26, 2004Inventor: Roy R. Vann

Publication number: 20040055743Abstract: A reciprocating pump dump valve for utilization in the hydrocarbon industry. The device is preferably used with barrel pumps although it may be used with tubing pumps. The device is positioned at the bottom of the wellbore immediately above the stinger and immediately below the standing valve and allows for complete dumping of the hydrostatic head in the production tubing whenever the pump must be pulled.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 5, 2003Publication date: March 25, 2004Inventor: Roy R. Vann

Publication number: 20030056951Abstract: A sliding sleeve valve and method for assembly is disclosed. The valve comprises a segmented main body that is assembled from a top, middle and bottom segments. The middle segment has flow apertures. A closing sleeve is co-axially mounted in the assembled main body. The closing sleeve has flow apertures that are intended to communicate with the flow apertures of the middle section when the valve is open. The closing sleeve is sealed by seal means within the main body to prevent undesired fluid flow across the valve. The seal means comprise primary, secondary and tertiary seals acting in cooperative combinations. The seals comprise O-Ring and Vee-stack seals located within the body of the valve. The sliding sleeve valve has a fluid pressure equalization means to permit equalization of fluid pressure across the valve before it is fully opened or fully closed in order to reduce wear on the seals.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 3, 2002Publication date: March 27, 2003Inventor: Frank Kaszuba

Patent number: 6328112Abstract: A valve assembly includes a seat having at least an opening and a first surface. A cover has a contact surface that is slideably and sealingly engaged to the first surface of the seat to form a seal when the contact surface completely covers the at least one opening.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1999Date of Patent: December 11, 2001Assignee: Schlumberger Technology CorpInventor: David L. Publication number: 20010042626Abstract: An apparatus usable in a subterranean well includes a valve, a first mechanism and a second mechanism. The valve controls communication between an annular region that surrounds the valve and an inner passageway of the valve. The first mechanism causes the valve to transition from a first state to a second state in response to pressure in the annular region. The second mechanism causes the valve to transition between the first state and the second state in response to a pressure differential between the annular region and the inner passageway.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 4, 2001Publication date: November 22, 2001Inventor: Dinesh R. Patel

Publication number: 20010018976Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of cleaning a well riser. In particular, the method comprises the steps of suspending in a drill pipe from the surface a circulating tool in the well riser, and causing the circulating tool to axially collapse so as to open one or more radial outlets in the tool and allow cleaning fluid to be expelled out of the tool and impact on the inside of the well riser.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 3, 2001Publication date: September 6, 2001Inventors: Mark Carmichael, Paul David Howlett

Patent number: 6269874Abstract: An electro-hydraulic surface controlled subsurface safety valve is controllable entirely electrically. The actuator operates on an electrically actuated pressure pump and a supply of hydraulic fluid reservoired in the tool proximate to the safety valve. A dump valve is normally open so that if power fails, pressure is released and the safety valve closes.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1999Date of Patent: August 7, 2001Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: Michael S. Rawson, Charles M. Tompkins, Doug Trott
