Longitudinally Movable Operator Patents (Class 166/66.7)
  • Patent number: 6237683
Abstract: A device for regulating fluid flow in a well is provided. The device may include: a body member having a central bore extending therethrough, at least one flow port, and a first valve seat; a sleeve member movably disposed within the central bore of the body member, and having a second valve seat adapted for cooperable sealing engagement with the first valve seat; means for selectively controlling movement of the sleeve member to regulate fluid flow through the at least one flow port; and conduit means for transmitting energy to the movement means. The conduit means may include a first and a second hydraulic control line, a single hydraulic control line, or a single electrical conductor. The movement means may include: a piston connected to the sleeve member and movable in response to a combination of hydraulic fluid, pressurized gas, spring force, and/or annulus pressure; or an electric motor connected to the sleeve member.

  • Patent number: 6199628
Abstract: A downhole force generator includes a longitudinal force generating and transmitting assembly (including, for example, a motor and a threaded shaft that is extended and retracted by operation of the motor) adapted to be moved into a well. A controller is also adapted to be moved into the well and is connected to the longitudinal force generating and transmitting assembly. The controller includes a memory containing a program to control the longitudinal force generating and transmitting assembly to obtain at least one desired operating condition in the well. A sensor can be connected to the controller. A self-contained power source adapted to be moved into the well can also be used. A method of providing an infinitely variable linear force in an oil or gas well is a particular application for such a downhole force generator. This particular method comprises sensing in the well a parameter responsive over a continuum to changes in a selected operating condition in the well.

  • Patent number: 6176318
Abstract: An actuator apparatus for actuating a downhole well tool according to which a housing extends in the well and a tool to be actuated is disposed in the housing. A drive member is connected to the tool for operating the tool, and an actuator system is disposed in the housing and is normally connected to the drive member for driving the drive member and operating the tool. In the event the actuator system fails, an additional actuator system is disposed in the housing and is adapted to be connected to the drive member for also driving the drive member and operating the tool.
