  • Patent number: 9022122
Abstract: A cap for protecting a sealing surface of a hub of a subsea device includes an equalization valve and a fluid conduit. The equalization valve includes a valve body having a pressure equalization conduit, a sleeve disposed about the valve body and having a port allowing fluid communication across the sleeve, and a valve spring configured to bias the sleeve to a closed position. The sleeve is configured to move to an open position in response to a force that depresses the sleeve and causes the valve spring to compress and the port is fluidly isolated from the pressure equalization conduit in the closed position and is in fluid communication with the pressure equalization conduit in the open position. In the open position, an interior environment of the subsea device is in fluid communication with the environment outside the cap through the equalization valve.

  • Patent number: 8789607
Abstract: A BOP stack encapsulation system has dual partially hemispherical dome sections which are each supported and guided for linear movement to open and closed positions relative to base plate. The dual containment domes are moved from open positions to closed and hermetically sealed positions about a BOP stack responsive to sensing BOP leakage or a dangerous pressure condition and are controllable from a remote location. When both containment domes are closed they develop concentrically arranged dual hermetically sealed spaces that enclose the BOP stack and capture any leaked fluid and pressure. Captured well fluid constituents can be bled from the internal spaces of the concentric encapsulation domes as desired.

  • Publication number: 20120067597
Abstract: A wellhead seal device forms metal seals in an annular space between inner and outer tubular members such as a rough casing held within aligned casing and tubing heads. An annular metal sealing sleeve has a lower portion seated in the annular space, and an upper portion which forms an inner sealing annulus adjacent the outer wall of the inner tubular member. A metal seal ring and a wedge ring are located in the inner sealing annulus. A retaining ring is retained by the upper portion above the wedge ring. Threaded seal energizing members extend through the retaining ring to push downwardly on the wedge ring and compress the metal seal ring radially inwardly to form a metal seal to the inner tubular member and thus seal the inner sealing annulus. The lower portion of the annular metal sealing sleeve may seal to the casing head and to the casing.

  • Patent number: 7658225
Abstract: A polish rod clamp apparatus has a body defining a lower rod aperture and a tapered body recess. A cap defines an upper rod aperture and a tapered cap recess. Tapered gripper dies have upper and lower outer surfaces sloping inward from a central portion and inner surfaces configured to bear against the polish rod. The dies are installed in the body recess such that inner surfaces bear against a polish rod and the lower outer surfaces bear against walls of the body recess. The dies are movable with respect to the body and are prevented from rotating. The cap is threaded onto the body such that the upper outer surfaces of the gripper dies bear against the walls of the tapered cap recess. Threading the cap onto the body forces the gripper dies against the outer surface of the polish rod passing through the body.

  • Publication number: 20090223661
Abstract: A casing cap to seal the annulus formed between an upper end of an outer casing and an inner casing. An annular casing cap housing is formed in split portions which when joined at their splits form the casing cap housing to cover and seal the annulus. The joined casing cap split portions form a side wall which surrounds the outer casing. The upper end forms an annular top section adapted to rest on the upper end of the outer casing, cover the annulus and form an upper annular seal to the inner casing. The lower end is adapted to form a mechanical connection, preferably non-welded, to the outer casing and to form an annular seal to the outer casing. Connectors between the casing cap split portions clamp together the sealing surfaces of the casing cap split portions with the sealing element to form pressure-containing, non-welded seals.
