The piping assembly includes a priming line with an inlet for receiving priming fluid from a fire suppressant fluid supply line and an outlet for delivering priming fluid to a priming chamber of the fire protection system valve. The inlet and the outlet are provided at the mounting member. The piping assembly also includes a component, which responsive to a control signal and/or a pressure differential. The component redirects priming fluid away from the outlet of the priming line in response to the control signal and/or the pressure differential for controlling the delivering of priming fluid to the priming chamber of the fire protection system valve.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2003Date of Patent: February 1, 2005Assignee: The Viking CorporationInventors: Eldon D. Patent number: 6752217Abstract: An accelerator for venting a pressurized gas source to the ambient is disclosed. The accelerator includes a first gas compartment connected to the pressurized gas source. A second gas compartment is connected to the first gas compartment through a one-way valve allowing gas to pass from the first gas compartment to the second gas compartment. A restrictor orifice allows gas to pass between the first and the second gas compartments at a predetermined rate. A valve member in the first gas compartment is normally in the closed position and moves to the open position in response to a pressure drop of the pressurized gas source causing a pressure differential between the first and second gas compartments, thereby venting the pressurized gas source to the ambient through the valve member in the first gas compartment.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2002Date of Patent: June 22, 2004Assignee: Victaulic Company of AmericaInventor: William J. Patent number: 6732808Abstract: This invention relates to a fire extinguishing device, with at least one supply line (4) that is dry with the device in an idle state, through which at least one extinguishing nozzle (1) is connected with an extinguishing fluid supply unit, which fills the supply line (4) with an extinguishing fluid if a fire breaks out. The device according to the invention makes it possible to improve a device of the kind mentioned at the outset with simple means in such a way that the air contained in the supply line can rapidly escape while filling with a high operational safety. This is achieved by connecting the supply line (4) with a discharge channel (6), in which a bursting disk (11), which seals the discharge channel (6) in an idle state, and a valve (9), which closes at a pressure higher than the bursting pressure of the bursting disk (9), are situated one after the other in the discharge direction (F).Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2002Date of Patent: May 11, 2004Assignee: Fogtec Brandschutz GmbH & Co. Patent number: 6715561Abstract: A vacuum dry sprinkler system includes a sprinkler head formed with a body having a central orifice through which fire extinguishing fluid is expelled through an outlet end. A yoke, attached to the exterior surface of the sprinkler body, extends beyond the outlet end of the sprinkler body and is connected at its apex to a deflector. A thermally sensitive trigger member is coupled to the yoke and the outlet end of the sprinkler head. The sprinkler body carries an expulsion assembly which includes an expulsion member and a thrust member. In response to a fire, the expulsion member of the expulsion assembly overcomes the vacuum force and expels the sealing assembly out of the outlet end of the sprinkler body, while the thrust member laterally thrusts the sealing member out of the water trajectory path, and thus, prevents the sealing assembly from reseating on the outlet of the sprinkler head.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2001Date of Patent: April 6, 2004Assignee: Viking CorporationInventor: Scott T. Patent number: 6708771Abstract: An electro-pneumatic actuator having AND gate logic characteristics is disclosed. The actuator has three chambers each divided into two chamber portions by respective flexible diaphragms. One of the diaphragms acts as a valve closing member and controls the flow of a pressurized fluid through the actuator to actuate an associated device when fluid flow is permitted. The other two diaphragms are in mechanical contact with one another and in hydraulic communication with the one diaphragm and thereby control its motion, keeping it normally closed and preventing fluid flow but allowing it to move into an open position permitting fluid flow and actuation of the associated device only when each of the two diaphragms are subject to separate, concurrent drops in pressure which allows both of them to deflect away from the one diaphragm. One of the pressure drops is triggered pneumatically, the other electrically.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 2002Date of Patent: March 23, 2004Assignee: Victaulic Company of AmericaInventor: William J. Patent number: 6540028Abstract: A pressure operated normally closed control valve operates to open at a predetermined pressure between the system minimum and maximum pressures to open the valve and allow the discharge of condensate from the system which has a source of pressure to provide a minimum and a maximum pressure. The system is subject to the formation of condensate. There is an inline filter at the inlet end of the valve and a discharge nozzle at the outlet end of the valve. The entrance to the discharge nozzle may also have a filter. The assembly can also be arranged so that the control valve is normally open and operates to open at a predetermined pressure at or below the system minimum pressure whereby condensate is removed, and to close the valve and prevent the discharge of condensate from the system when the pressure falls below the predetermined pressure.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 2001Date of Patent: April 1, 2003Inventor: James L.
