  • Publication number: 20100078181
Abstract: A residential sidewall sprinkler and system for a coverage area defined by a pair of parallel vertical walls. The sprinkler includes a body having a passageway defining a K-factor of about 6. The body has an inlet coupled to a fluid supply line and a distal end coupled to a deflector assembly. The deflector assembly includes a face portion with an upper canopy and a lower canopy disposed about the face portion. The sprinkler is mounted to one of the walls to define a ceiling-to-deflector distance ranging from about four inches to about twelve inches. The fluid supply at the inlet is at least at one of a substantially constant flow rate of fluid and substantially constant fluid pressure. The deflector assembly distributes the fluid over the coverage area so as to wet the vertical walls within about twenty-eight inches of the ceiling over the ceiling-to-deflector range.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a stationary fire fighting system for retrofitting into a structure. The system can include a flowmeter in fluid communication with a water line in the structure. The flowmeter can generate a flow rate signal. The system can include a controller connected to the flowmeter and a proportioner pump connected to the controller. The system can include an additive supply tank in fluid communication with the proportioner pump. The controller can operate the proportioner pump based on the flow rate signal to provide additive from the additive supply tank to the water line to create a solution. The system can include at least one sprinkler head to distribute the solution within the structure.

Abstract: A waste water containment, filtration, and transportation system captures polluted waste water from various waste water sources including fire sprinkler systems and fire hydrants. The system includes a sight tube which connects to a female swivel connection on, for example, a Fire Department Connection (FDC). A flexible hose connects the sight tube to a mobile holding tank. The sight tube allows the observation of a waste water flow from the fire sprinkler system or fire hydrant to ensure that a complete flushing has been accomplished. A rod attached to an end of the sight tube holds a clapper in the FDC open during testing. The waste water is held in the mobile holding tank for later disposal. The containment and transportation system allows compliance with NFPA Standards, California State Fire Marshal's “Title 19 Regulations, the Federal Clean Water laws, the Federal Coastal Zone laws, as well as local city ordinances.

Abstract: A sprinkler head shut off device, comprising of a handle with at least one jaw, a lever, a stopper arm, and a means for reciprocating the stopper arm as the lever is rotated, in order to bring a portion of the stopper arm in contact with the orifice of the sprinkler and stop water flow. The device further comprises a locking means to lock the lever in position. The locking means comprises a member attached to the lever which locks its rotary motion in one direction at a particular position by engaging with a portion of the means for reciprocating the stopper arm.

  • Publication number: 20080202773
Abstract: A fire sprinkler of the preferred embodiments includes a frame, a trigger, and a deflector. The frame defines a duct to exhaust the flow of a fire suppressing or extinguishing substance, and includes a fastener to fasten the frame to a supply line. The trigger blocks the flow of the fire suppressing or extinguishing substance through the duct during a first mode, and permits the flow of the fire suppressing or extinguishing substance during a second mode. The deflector redirects the flow of the fire suppressing or extinguishing substance into a coverage area. The deflector also at least partially shields the trigger from the dispersal of a fire suppressing or extinguishing substance from an adjacent fire sprinkler and prevents a failure of the trigger.

Abstract: An apparatus for blocking a medium flow passage in a spray head has a blocking element in the passage that, when unbroken, blocks the passage of medium from a first side having a first pressure to a second side having a second pressure. A supporting element is on that side of the blocking element where the pressure is lower, the supporting element being movable between a first position where the supporting element supports the blocking element so that it cannot be ruptured and a second position where the supporting element does not so support the blocking element.

  • Patent number: 7389827
Abstract: A discharge assembly used with a fire suppression delivery system comprises a nozzle having an outer nozzle surface and inlet and discharge ends. The inlet end receives fire suppression agent and the discharge end dispenses fire suppression agent through an orifice. A blow-off cap has an open-ended cavity shaped to receive the discharge end of the nozzle and cover the orifice. The cavity includes an interior cap surface located in close proximity to the outer nozzle surface of the nozzle when the blow-off cap is mounted on the discharge end of the nozzle. A receptacle is formed in at least one of the outer nozzle surface of the nozzle and the interior cap surface of the blow-off cap. A retention element fits within the receptacle and engages the outer nozzle surface and interior cap surface, providing a predetermined amount of retention resistance to retain the blow-off cap on the nozzle.

Abstract: [Problems] To provide a sprinkler head installed by burying it in a ceiling, having a cover plate to conceal the sprinkler head, enabling the adjustment of the height of the sprinkler head relative to the surface of the ceiling, and capable of efficiently transferring the heat of flame absorbed by the cover plate to the heat sensitive body of the sprinkler head. [Means for Solving Problems] A heat collector (15) having a plurality of fins (14) in the radial direction is fitted to the heat sensitive body of the sprinkler head, and the fins (14) are bent in a diagonal lower side by a plurality of bent parts (16). A disk-like heat collector (13) is stackingly installed on the upper part of the heat collector (15), and ribs (13A) and (13B) formed on the heat collector (13) are installed at positions where the bent parts (16) are not interfered with the ribs (13A) and (13B) when the heat collector (15) is contracted.
