  • Patent number: 8887819
Abstract: The present invention relates to a sprinkler with an integrated valve, and to a fire-extinguishing system using same. Conventional sprinklers are too sensitive to the outbreak of a fire, and operate even if no fire has broken out, which would lead to a large amount of damage. For this reason, conventional sprinklers are often prevented from being operated in advance. In addition, sprinklers do not operate even upon the outbreak of a fire when the sensitivities thereof are lowered, rendering the sprinklers useless.

Abstract: A fire suppression system is disclosed that includes a suppressant source system configured to hold fire suppressant. In one example, the fire suppressant is an inert gas. A temperature sensor is arranged in a suppression area and is configured to detect an undesired temperature or temperature increase in the suppression area. A suppression system is in communication with the temperature sensor and in fluid communication with the suppressant source system. The suppression system is configured to selectively release the fire suppressant to the suppression area at initial and subsequent rates. The initial rate is greater than the subsequent rate. The subsequent rate is configured to displace a volume from the suppression area through the leakage system in response to the undesired temperature.

  • Patent number: 7434628
Abstract: A system for fighting a fire in an enclosed space has at least one container (3) for holding a fire extinguishing agent under pressure. A pipe system connects a container outlet to a discharge in the enclosed space. A controllable flow control valve (5) in the pipe system is responsive to a flow control signal generated by a control unit (4) in response to sensed characteristics (pressure and/or temperature) of the agent. A trigger action initially opens the container to the pipe system. The valve is initially held open until concentration (A) of fire extinguishing agent in the enclosed space is sufficient to suffocate a started fire. Thereafter, the valve is opened intermittently to maintain a lower concentration of fire extinguishing agent in the space sufficient to prevent rekindling. More than one container may be used but only one is equipped with a valve controllable by a control unit.

  • Patent number: 6814150
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for distributing liquid media, in particular extinguishing fluids for fighting fires, in the form of a mist or a stream of large droplets from a supply line which is maintained at a constant low-pressure, in rooms, for example in living spaces and recreation rooms, or similar. The aim of the invention is to provide a method and a device of the aforementioned type which can be used to produce a fine mist of small droplets and a jet spray of large droplets at separate moments, at approximately the same operating pressure of the extinguishing fluid, depending on the outbreak and the development of the fire, whilst at the same time minimising water consumption, reducing water damage caused during a fire and increasing cost-effectiveness, by creating a modular system which can be universally installed.

  • Patent number: 6578639
Abstract: This invention is geared at attacking the scourge of explosive fires, burns, environmental pollution, or other such hazards associated with the use, transport, and storage of fuels and other hazardous substances, before they occur, including the explosion hazard present in many automotive rear-end collisions. This is achieved by swiftly reacting a “disabler” or “neutralizer” with the hazardous substance, voluntarily or by automation, on the occurrence of predetermined events that position the hazardous substance to threaten a greater than desired risk of harm. According to one of the preferred embodiments of this invention, the formation of combustion vapors in the ullage of fuel tanks is altogether prevented.

  • Patent number: 5449041
Abstract: An apparatus for suppressing a fire comprises a gas generator in communication with a vaporizable liquid by means of a first conduit. When activated, the gas generator generates an elevated temperature burst of a first gas containing carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and/or water vapor. This first gas vaporizes substantially all of the vaporizable liquid, generating a second gas having flame suppressing capabilities. The second gas is directed at the fire to suppress and extinguish it.

  • Patent number: 5188257
Abstract: A CO.sub.2 gas generator for an aerosol device is located in a housing and chemically generates CO.sub.2 from a chemical reaction between two reagents contained within a common container. The reagents are located in different chambers of the container with a CO.sub.2 accumulation region being included in one of the chambers. A reference pressure source of a predetermined pressure forces the two reagents into contact with each other when the pressure of gas in the CO.sub.2 accumulation region is less than the predetermined pressure whereupon CO.sub.2 is generated in one of the chambers. An output conduit in fluid communication with the CO.sub.2 accumulation region is provided to withdraw the generated gas from the generator. As the CO.sub.2 is withdrawn, the gas pressure drops permitting more mixing of the reagents. When the CO.sub.2 pressure becomes equal to or higher than the predetermined pressure applied by the reference pressure source, the reagents become separated again and gas generation ceases.
