  • Patent number: 4950102
Abstract: A wheel compaction unit for use on the articulated arm of heavy excavation equipment comprises a frame mounted to the equipment arm, the frame including support arms mounting a hub and axle assembly including three independently rotatable bearing mounted hubs. At least one compaction wheel is mounted to each hub, and auxiliary compaction wheels including angled spokes and an offset periphery are provided for mounting to the outside hubs to increase the working width of the wheel compaction unit. The hubs and axle assembly is sealed with ground metal seals and end plates. The periphery of the compaction wheels include spaced-apart presentation supports having angled leading/trailing edges, the presentation supports each supporting a compaction foot integral with the wheel. A removable wear collar closely surrounds the compaction foot and receives the primary impact and abrasion during use of the compaction unit, the wear collars being readily replaceable.

  • Patent number: 4765262
Abstract: An agricultural planter in which three coulters are mounted on a single shaft, which shaft is supported at each end with side supports carried by the frame of the planter. A main large diameter coulter is used to break the soil to make a furrow, another coulter of smaller diameter is used to place fertilizer in one band and yet another coulter of yet smaller diameter is used to plant seed in another band with all three coulters being mounted on a single shaft. The structure described herein makes it possible to mount all three coulters on a single shaft, and yet permit each coulter to rotate independently of one another while operating as a unit.

  • Patent number: 4291770
Abstract: A disc apparatus for forming levees used in rice farming and the like. The disc apparatus includes a longitudinal frame member onto which a pair of cross frame members are pivotally attached. A set of disc blades consisting of a plurality of disc blade members are attached to the opposite ends of each cross frame member. Each disc blade member of a set are of varying outside diameters with the disc blade member having the largest outside diameter located closest to the longitudinal frame member and with the size of each adjacent disc blade member uniformly decreasing so that the disc blade member having the smallest outside diameter will be located farthest from the longitudinal frame member. Each set of disc blade members can be adjusted so that the lowermost portion of each blade member thereof is level with the lowermost portion of each of the other blade members of that set.

  • Patent number: 4211284
Abstract: An improved earth working implement is disclosed which is particularly suitable for surgarcane cultivation, said implement having four main pluralities of saucer shaped cultivator discs carried by a trailer, each of said pluralities being individually adjustable to vary the angular relationship of the discs relative to the longitudinal axis of the trailer as well as the lateral spacing between the discs and said axis. A pair of retractable wheels are provided to permit the trailer to be towed between a storage area and the sugarcane fields. An adjustable soil deflector disc is disposed adjacent to and rearwardly of each plurality of discs to deflect the soil removed by the cultivator discs in a loosened condition back into the general area from which it was removed. Two additional pairs of cultivator discs are rotatably, angularly, adjustably attachable to the rear end of the trailer.

  • Patent number: 4195695
Abstract: A method and apparatus for treatment of land surfaces is disclosed. The land surface is imprinted by means of imprint capsules of alternating geometries--one being a water-runoff-directing geometry; the other, a water-infiltration-enhancing geometry. The method prevents water runoff and enhances water infiltration into the soil in areas where high moisture levels would be desirable, such as in seed beds and at the base of growing plants.

  • Patent number: 4187916
Abstract: Soil conditioning apparatus is disclosed which has a front coulter assembly, preferably with a fluted coulter, for preparing a narrow path wider than the following subsoiler shank by cutting trash and breaking and slitting the topsoil. Following the front coulter assembly is the subsoiler assembly for further breaking the surface soil and breaking and shattering the "hard pan" created by years of conventional tillage. Following the subsoiler assembly is the slot filler assembly for filling the slot or crevice left by the subsoiler as it moves through the ground, a sufficient amount to prevent cave-ins or settling which would carry seeds too deep to properly germinate. Behind the slot filler wheel assembly means is the seed bed implement assembly for preparing the seed bed by pulverizing the soil and by removing trash which may have remained in the seed bed region after the above mentioned prior operations.
