  • Patent number: 5787991
Abstract: An adjustable ridger for a cultivator includes an elongated ridger frame adapted to mount to the sweep member of the cultivator. The frame has a top bracket with an elongated slot extending therethrough. The slot has a width and a longitudinal axis. A plurality of setting holes in the top bracket are spaced apart along the longitudinal axis of the slot, each setting hole having a diameter greater than the width of the slot. A bottom bracket is spaced apart from the top bracket on the frame and has a guide hole therein. An elongated pull pin, having a stepped outer diameter with first and second diameter portions, is insertable through the slot in the top bracket and into the guide hole in the bottom bracket to act as a hinge pin. The second diameter portion is larger than the first diameter portion and yet smaller than the diameter of the setting holes. At least one wing pivotally mounts on the pull pin between the top and bottom brackets.

  • Patent number: 5649601
Abstract: A plow assembly is provided with a row of colters which cut the stalks when the plow is towed by a tractor over a prescribed area of ground. The plow has additional parallel tool bars which carry staggered plow times or shanks which carry plow shares, the plow shares protruding forwardly so as to cut parallel furrows along the ground. The shanks receive brackets, each of which includes a central tongue straddled by forwardly protruding arms of a bracket which is mounted on the central portion of a V-shaped flat sweep. A bolt or pivot pin passing through the bracket arms and the tongue permit each sweep to pivot about 180.degree. about a horizontal axis of the pivot pin.

  • Patent number: 5398770
Abstract: A chisel cultivator for post-planting cultivation. The cultivator includes a main frame. A chisel member has one end portion coupled to the frame and a second end portion spaced from the first end portion along a longitudinal axis of the chisel member for cultivating sub-surface soil during operation of the cultivator. A heave limiter is coupled to the frame ahead of the chisel member relative to the direction of operation of the chisel cultivator. The chisel member is adjustable relative to the frame to adjust the distance of the second end portion of the chisel member from the frame. A sweep assembly is coupled to the frame behind the chisel member relative to the direction of operation of the chisel cultivator. The sweep assembly includes wings which extend outwardly of a centerline extending in the direction of operation of the chisel cultivator in a plane substantially orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the chisel member.

  • Patent number: 5361848
Abstract: Improvements are disclosed for independent adjustment of the gauge wheel, disc hillers, stabilizer disc and, if desired, the rear, central sweep for an agricultural cultivator unit. The adjusting mechanism includes a screw jack which is easily accessible from the top of the cultivator for setting the adjustment of vertically telescoping inner and outer tubular sections, and a clamp for maintaining the setting once the adjustment is made. Improvements in the disc hiller structure itself include an indicator plate located at the top of the shank on which the disc is mounted for indicating the angular adjustment of the working angle of the disc, and a forged shank having a circular cross-section at the top, and a flattened portion at the bottom to provide strength but flexibility.

  • Patent number: 4585074
Abstract: A ridge forming attachment for cultivators of a type having a plurality of earth working blades thereon for eliminating weeds between rows of crops growing in the field. The ridge forming attachment includes a bracket adapted to be attached to such cultivator rearwardly of one of the earth working blades thereon. A ridge forming wing structure is provided for moving the soil loosened by the earth working blades which it follows between the rows of crops and pushing such loose dirt to each side to form ridges along the rows of growing crops. The ridge forming structure is narrower at the front thereof and progressively tapers outwardly towards the rear of the space between rows for pushing the soil from such space between the rows outwardly towards the rows of growing crops.

  • Patent number: 4560011
Abstract: An inter-row crop cultivator for use particularly in severe residue conditions such as in minimum tillage conservation applications is disclosed. A leading gauge wheel providing support and soil surface tracking is immediately trailed by two laterally displaced discs which cut away from the row. Aft of the two cutaway discs and directly to the rear of the gauge wheel is a stabilizing and cutting coulter which prevents side to side sway while cutting and reducing residue ahead of a sweep shank which directly trails the cutting coulter. By severing and dividing the residue, the cutting coulter permits the residue to flow over the sweep and around the shank. The shank is adapted to receive an anhydrous ammonia applicator and knife assembly which may be easily and securely mounted to the shank. A plurality of such inter-row crop cultivators may be mounted on a tool bar.

  • Patent number: 4015667
Abstract: A root and stalk shredder having a frame, a pair of longitudinally extending, parallel, power driven lifting rollers rotatably mounted on the frame and extending longitudinally parallel to a path of travel of the shredder, guide means mounted on the frame forward of the rollers in the direction of movement of the shredder for guiding stalks between the rollers, a blade assembly mounted on the frame over the rollers and operatively associated with the rollers for cutting roots and stalks lifted by the rollers, and a plow assembly mounted on the frame and provided with a fin assembly for facilitating use of the shredder to re-shape a bed being cleared. A bed re-shaping assembly is mounted at the rear end of the shredder frame for covering over shredded crop residue deflected down into the bed by a deflector shield also arranged at the rear of the shredder frame.
