  • Patent number: 5373903
Abstract: A self-cleaning, dual purpose, manual garden tool that can be used either as a weeder or as a cultivator. The tool has an elongated body that serves as a handle. The body is longitudinally split into two parts which are pivotally joined at one end. When the two parts are brought together they mate so as to form a single body. A blade formed of laterally spaced tines is mounted at the pivoted end of one body part so as to form a longitudinal extension of that body part. Another blade formed of laterally spaced tines is mounted on the pivoted end of the other body part so as to form a transverse extension thereof. When the tool is used as a weeder the longitudinally extending blade is shoved in the soil underneath a weed and the weed is lifted by a prying action. When the tool is used as a cultivator the transversely extending blade is used to scarify the top soil and dig out weeds.

  • Patent number: 5370191
Abstract: A semi-automatic, adjustable picking and weeding implement comprises a stationary prong and an adjustable prong with which a horizontal handle, a stop pad, a spring, two horizontal, partly-threaded shafts, two stop pegs and four nuts are associated so that the implement can be vertically pushed into soil, and one prong can be slantingly pressed toward the other to pluck up weeds easily and promptly. After that, the prong that is slantingly pressed can automatically recover its vertical position. In order to weed various sizes of weeds, the span between the stationary prong and the adjustable prong can be modified. Essential methods for using such an implement are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5330010
Abstract: An apparatus (10) for rotary extraction of weeds and other vegetation by hand or by using a power driver. The apparatus includes a hollow guide tube (20) in which a shaft (16) is slidably disposed. An extraction head having a plurality of pointed rods (12) or prongs (62) is coupled to shaft (16), and can be extended or retracted by movement of shaft (16) within the guide tube (20). The rods (12) or prongs (62) are extended and inserted into the soil over the vegetation to be removed. Rotation of the apparatus winds the vegetation and its root around the rods (12) or prongs (62) and removes it from the soil. The vegetation is then ejected from the apparatus by retracting the rods (12) or prongs (62) and, if necessary, sliding the vegetation off of the tapered sleeve (30).

  • Patent number: 5322130
Abstract: A ball repair tool has a plurality of fingers which extend first vertically into the surface of the green. After extending into the green vertically a specified distance, the plurality of fingers are forced conically inward to force both dirt and grass into the unrepaired ball mark. Once repaired, the fingers are retracted leaving a repaired ball mark. The holes made by the blades of the fingers aid in the repair of the ball mark by aerating the area around the repaired ball mark. The vertical extension of the fingers into the green before the conical motion to force dirt and grass into the ball mark provides sufficient depth of the repair area to adequately support the green area.

  • Patent number: 5230385
Abstract: A rake head attachment for raking the sand of a trap, designed for being removably mounted upon the grip of the shaft of a golf club. This rake head attachment comprises an elongate support member, from a lower portion of which a plurality of rake teeth extend substantially perpendicularly downwardly in a coplanar array. The upper portion of the support member is enlarged, with a handle-receiving socket defined in a central part thereof, with the central axis of the socket being generally perpendicular to the plane of the teeth. The socket has elongate members of springy, flexible material of sufficient length as to collectively define a socket of sufficient depth as to tightly and firmly receive a substantial portion of the end of the grip. The members close around the end of the inserted grip so as to grasp such end sufficiently tightly as to enable the rake teeth of the attachment to be pulled through the sand of the trap.

  • Patent number: 4813490
Abstract: A soil dressing implement useful as a sand trap rake, the head thereof including a transverse body portion with plurality of tines and a vane extending across the rear of the tines for the full width of the head. The tines, which are laterally spaced, have a downwardly and rearwardly sloped front edge merging into a rearwardly and downwardly curved bottom edge. The bottom edge curves slightly upward at the rear and terminates at a lower edge of the vane. The vane has a front flat surface which slopes downwardly and forwardly towards the lower edge thereof. The transverse body has a top surface having a rear edge which is forward of the bottom edges of tines when the implement is lying on its back. The implement has better raking characteristics than known devices because the front sloped surface of the vane has a tendency to pull the tines down into the sand and to distribute the sand which then flows between the tines and spills over the upper edge of the vane so as to not leave any tine marks.

  • Patent number: 4326743
Abstract: A weeding tool is provided in the form of a fork having a plurality of tines, each tine having teeth which project outwardly and rearwardly from lateral edges thereof. The tines are employed for breaking up and loosening soil around relatively large weed roots. The teeth along the tine edges collect and withdraw small, hair-like rootlets dispersed throughout the soil in association with the larger roots. In a preferred embodiment the rearwardly directed teeth are offset in a crosscut configuration and are staggered along edges of adjacent tines to increase their effectiveness. The removal of rootlets during the course of ordinary weeding with the tool reduces regeneration of weeds by propagation of the rootlets.

Abstract: A hand-held rake for golfers is made with a head having two portions one of which can pivot about the shaft of the rake from a working position in which it forms a continuation of the other head portion to a stowage position in which the head portions are in overlying relationship with their tines oppositely directed. The rake when stowed thus has the form of a golf club. The tines of each head portion can be arranged such that when the head portions overlie each other, the ends of the tines of each head portion lie shielded within the outline of the other head portion which facilitate handling of the rake.

  • Patent number: 4232422
Abstract: A tool such as a garden cultivator, squeegee, or paint-roller holder has a relatively short handle provided at its rear end with a relatively deep backwardly open recess. An extension handle has a relatively long front end engageable relatively far into this recess and is provided with a fixed ring formed with a multiple screwthread engageable with a similar formation inside the recess so that the two parts can be locked together by a single revolution relative to each other. At its rear end the extension handle is provided with a cap having a forwardly directed end and screwthread formations similar to that of the front and of the extension handle so that this cap can be placed on the rear end of the short handle of the tool if desired.

  • Patent number: 4091879
Abstract: A hand garden tool generally in the form of a rake wherein all tines are individually vertically-adjustable upon the crossbar, some to different depths depending from the crossbar and alternate tines can be elevated or raised to allow the depending tines to astraddle vegetable plant or flower rows so the cultivating action is had by a single raking action or pass of the converted rake cultivating tool along the vegetable rows and so that the rows are cultivated on opposite sides at the same time. The vegetable or flower rows in the garden which are to be cultivated by the use of this tool can be spaced closer together and conserve upon ground space and the work required for the cultivator to keep a garden thereby greatly reduced. The tool can be inverted and worked from one side or the other with the alternate raised tines by less rows at a time and at times the pulling is being made in more tough ground.
