Abstract: A furrow closer apparatus has a bracket extending down from an upper forward portion of an implement shank. Right and left spring arms with soil moving elements at lower ends thereof are attached at top ends thereof to right and left coil springs connected by a cross member. A spring tube extends through the coil springs and through the bracket aperture to attach the spring arms such that a spring arm extends rearward and downward on each side of a shank location. Clips are attached to the spring tube on each side of the bracket aperture and define clip apertures. The cross member extends through the clip apertures, and the clip apertures are larger than the cross member such that the cross member is movable in the clip apertures. Rotatable discs with a twine wrap inhibiting ring can provide the soil moving elements.

  • Patent number: 6647904
Abstract: A planting unit lockup assembly extends between upper and lower links of a parallelogram linkage. A lockup link is pivotally coupled to the upper link and extends downwardly to the lower link. The lockup link is also provided with a slot having a hook. A slide member is mounted to the lower link and engages the slot. A control link is pivotally coupled to the lockup link by a loose pivot coupling. The control link is biased towards the lower link by a spring. The control link is provided with a trapping element that engages the lockup link. The trapping element of the control link engages the lockup link in one of two positions, a normal position and a lockup position. In its normal position, the control link biases the hook away from the slide bushing member. In its lockup position, the control link biases the hook toward the slide bushing member.

  • Patent number: 5515929
Abstract: A dual disc cultivator cutaway (10) is disclosed including a frame (30) pivotally mounted to a cultivator tool bar (14) through a bar mount (22). A spindle (38) is pivotally mounted to the opposite end of the frame (30) and slideably mounts first and second arms (40) which in turn rotatably mount the disc blades (44). An adjustment slide (46) is removably pivotally mounted to the upper arm (26) of the cultivator gang assembly and is adjustably, slideably fixed on a bar (45) extending from the spindle (38). Thus, movement of the frame (30) is in a fixed positional relationship with the gang assembly in the cutting and transport positions and pivots with the gang assembly relative to the tool bar (14). When the slide (46) is not attached to the upper arm (26), the frame (30) can be held in an inoperative position relative to the tool bar (14) by a latch (54) pivotally mounted to the tool bar ( 14) through the bar mount (22) which hooks on a pin (56) attached to the frame (30).

  • Patent number: 5435082
Abstract: An apparatus, for stabilizing a plowing implement mounted on a motor vehicle, comprising a rigid stabilizer member having first and second opposed ends. One end of the stabilizer member supports an attachment device for attaching the stabilizer member to a plowing frame secured to a motor vehicle. The attachment device allows pivoting motion of the stabilizer member relative to the plowing frame. The second end of the stabilizer member has an abutment surface for abutting against a pivotable portion of the plowing implement when the plowing implement is raised into travel position. The stabilizer member is pivotable into an inoperative position where complete freedom of movement of the plow is achieved and an operative position by a control mechanism. When the stabilizer member is in its operative position, the abutment surface abuts against a pivotable portion of the plowing implement to minimize undesired bouncing of the plowing implement while the vehicle is traveling on a roadway.

  • Patent number: 5170848
Abstract: A sod cutting machine that includes a towable frame and a series of parallel trailing suspension arms, each suspension arm having a sod cutter disk and roller device for limiting the cutting depth of the disk. Each suspension arm is independently swingably attached to the frame so that each cutter disk achieves a proper cutting depth. A marking and tracking system is provided to maintain a desired parallelism and even spacing between the cuts in successive passes of the machine. The frame can be actuated to raise selected ones of the suspension arms in order to vary the slit spacing, thus to form elongated rectangular sod sections.

  • Patent number: 5054561
Abstract: A ground working implement includes a tool bar and a tool element which can be pulled across the ground by its attachment to the tool bar by a bracket and link system. The link comprises a U-shaped arm with a transverse portion parallel to an axis of rotation of the tool. The transverse portion is carried in a bracket depending from an underside of the tool bar. The transverse portion is formed of a tubular member which has a projecting portion extending radially from the axis of the tubular portion. The projecting portion has two side plates which rub against side plates of the channel to prevent side to side movement of the tool. The tool can raise or lower by rotation of the transverse portion of the channel or by lifting of the transverse portion in the channel within the limits defined by a base plate of the channel or a transverse restraining pin. The tool is latched in a raised position by a latch plate attached to the projecting portion which wedges underneath the base plate of the channel.

  • Patent number: 4738317
Abstract: Locking structure for securing a four-bar linkage or the like on an implement in a raised position to remove an earthworking tool or row unit from ground engagement. An overcenter spring arrangement selectively biases a strap pivotally connected to one arm of the linkage toward or away from a member located on the opposite arm. When the strap is biased toward the member, raising the tool or row unit causes the strap to engage the member to prevent rocking of the linkage and thereby secure the device out of ground contact. Reversing the spring arrangement and raising the device causes the strap to move out of locking engagement with the member for normal operation. An elongated device includes pins for aiding the operator in both moving the over-center spring arrangement between positions and raising the tool or row unit.

  • Patent number: 4206816
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for folding an articulated agricultural implement such as a multisection plow in order to facilitate movement of the implement from field to field along available roadways. Stability in the folded condition and minimization of the number of hydraulic cylinders required are achieved through the use of a gravity operated lock arrangement associated with adjacent sections of the foldable wing frame units of the implement. The number of locks and hydraulic cylinders depends upon the total number of hinged sections used to form the base and wing units of the frame assembly. The inboard hydraulic cylinders are pivotally connected to respective draft beams on the base unit and each acts directly between such beam and the associated wing unit.

  • Patent number: 4173260
Abstract: An agricultural implement has a main frame and laterally positioned carrier frames pivoted to the sides of the main frame. The main frame extends forward to a coupling point for connection to a prime mover. The rear of the main frame mounts a hydraulic piston assembly that is interconnected to each carrier frame to elevate same into an upward tilted transport position. Each frame and carrier frame supports a frame portion having a respective group of rotatable soil working members positioned in a row to work a broad path during working operation. Connecting members on the carrier frames are connected to the central frame portion to raise same when the carrier frames are in their tilted transport positions. Latches supported on the main frame secure beams of the carrier frames in their tilted positions until release.
