Abstract: A segmented blade comprised of overlapping blade segments is disclosed herein. Each blade segment overlaps with adjacent segments thereby providing for an overlapping joint between segments. The overlapping joint reduces erosion and/or washout of the underlying moldboard. Further, in one embodiment, the overlapping joint may include a connector hole such as a bolt hole through which a bolt detachably connects the overlapped sections of adjacent blade segments with the moldboard. Such a connection increases the strength of the connection as well as the strength of the moldboard in the region of the connection. This allows for smaller blade segments to be used and allows for segments which are of a suitable size to be manhandled by a single operator without jeopardizing the strength of the moldboard and/or the longevity of the moldboard.

Abstract: Seaweed is picked up from the surface of a beach with general purpose earth moving machinery by installing a series of fingers extending forwardly and downwardly from the blade or bucket of the machine. By driving the machine forwardly along the beach, the fingers pass through the sand and seaweed on the beach travels up the incline of the fingers. The fingers accordingly act as a separator to separate most of the seaweed from most of the sand. Several embodiments of each moving machines are adapted for seaweed handling or removal.

  • Patent number: 6865829
Abstract: A bucket tooth capable of preventing a bolt from being loosened during operation is provided. In order to allow the bucket tooth to generate a resilient return force after attachment, a warp is caused by resilient deformation so that a face on the bucket lip side becomes a concave face. As another means, a spot facing portion is formed around a bolt hole into which a fastening bolt is inserted, on the side facing the bucket lip.

Abstract: A plow blade having a fluid passageway and points of fluid ejection is produced with basic manufacturing processes allowing for efficient production. The blade construction has a multiple component assembly for providing the ability to rebuild a blade and replacing a portion of the blade that may be worn. In another aspect of the invention a process of ejecting a specific fluid at specific points along a plow blade the desirable characteristics are maximized, while the volume of ejected fluid is minimized. This method is adaptable in static plowing and vibratory plowing utilities since lubricating the sides of the blade/chute that come into contact with the ground with fluid has been found to greatly reduce the amount of drag (friction).

  • Patent number: 6799385
Abstract: An abrasion resistant metal earth working surface having a plurality of spaced hollow open ended cup-shaped abrasion resistant studs welded to the surface which collect particulate material in the hollow open ends of the weld studs, wherein the particulate material forms an abrasion resistant barrier limiting abrasion of the earth working surface. The size and shape of the cup-shaped weld studs and the spacing between the array of studs is selected to provide optimum collection of particulate material which reduces wear to extend the efficient operation and life of the earth working surface.

  • Patent number: 6571493
Abstract: A cutting edge which has improved resistance to scratching wear, such resistance being required for cutting edges for snow removal, which has good performance to increase e.g., compressed snow rate, and which can be manufactured at comparatively low cost. The cutting edge comprises a hard member provided at the leading edge of an edge body, the hard member comprising (i) a hard material containing hard grains which are dispersed with high filling density and integrally combined by a metal having a lower melting point than the hard grains and (ii) a protective member which covers at least the front face of the hard material as viewed in the travel direction of the blade and which has impact resistance.

  • Patent number: 6401834
Abstract: An earth working tool assembly of the type including a tool shank terminating in a foot and an earth working tool or point which has a socket for engagement by the shank foot. A bridging member extends between the shank foot and point, the bridging member having a tongue at one end which is received in a channel on the underside of the shank foot and a channel at the other end which receives a rib on the underside of the point. The bridging member transfers a proportion of side loading on the tool point to the tool shank at a position rearwardly from the leading end of the foot of the tool shank so as that the shank has increased resistance to breakage or bending.
