Abstract: The present invention provides for carbide edge snowplow and grader blades that are durable and fracture resistant. The carbide along the blade edge and blade bottom which contacts the surface being treated is designed to limit the degree of fracture of the carbide. Carbide inserts along the edge and/or bottom are separated from each other by a steel alloy spacer/shim along the width of the blade. Abstract: A high wear-resistant grader blade which combines two high wear-resistant elements in the lower end of the blade. First, high wear-resistant particles are embedded into the front leading edge of the blade. More particularly, the leading edge of the blade is heated to pool molten metal. Tungsten carbide particles are then added to the pooled molten metal so as to blend with the molten metal. Upon cooling, the tungsten carbide particles mixed with the melted grader blade metal, will penetrate into the surface of the grader blade and will form a protrusion outward from the surface of the grader blade. Thus, the leading edge of the grader blade will be formed of a mixture of tungsten carbide and the grader blade material. Second, a groove is milled down the center of the grader blade and high wear-resistant inserts laid end-to-end are brazed into the groove.

  • Patent number: 5755048
Abstract: A pavement cutter is provided for attachment to the boom assembly of a conventional backhoe or excavator including an elongated cutting blade having a scoring edge disposed in substantially parallel relation to the surface of the pavement and a cutting edge disposed substantially perpendicular to the scoring edge and wherein a pair of outwardly extending pressure flanges are attached to the blade one on each thereof at a point above the scoring and cutting edges of the blade. The pavement is first scored along a straight line using the scoring edge and then cut along the scored line using the cutting edge of the blade. The pressure flanges on each side of the cutting blade slide along the top surface of the pavement applying a vertical or downward force which prevents the asphalt from lifting and breaking up during the cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 5553409
Abstract: A wear protector system for shielding the leading edge of an earthmoving implement such as a loading bucket includes an arrangement of shrouds which cover the leading edge between the laterally spaced digger teeth. Each shroud has a nose portion that wraps around the leading edge and a rearwardly extending tail portion having an abutment surface that engages an undercut abutment surface of an anchor block that is welded to the bucket. The complementary abutment surfaces retain the tail portion from moving upwardly away from the bucket surface, whereas the shroud is retained from movement forwardly out of engagement with the lip by use of a cotter pin extending transversely through a passage that is formed partially in the tail of the shroud and partially in the anchor.

Abstract: A wear pad assembly for the bottom of a large machine operated device has a number of wear pads, each of which has a number of sections which are compressed and sandwiched together. The sections have an inclined front surface to assist in scooping debris or snow from a floor surface or a street. The sections are mounted in a frame which has a top plate, a pair of end plates which are perpendicular to the top plate, and a pair of rods which extend between the end plates and are parallel each other and to the top plate. The sections may include fabric reinforced rubber, molded rubber, polyurethane, or a combination of these materials.

  • Patent number: 5412885
Abstract: Edge protectors for the leading portions of base edges have been utilized in many application to protect the leading portion of the base edge. It is advantageous to have an edge protector that is readily removed and replaced without having to remove additional elements. In the subject arrangement, a base edge protector assembly is included having a protector mounting lug and a replaceable lip protector. The protector mounting lug has a pair of spaced apart bosses and a laterally disposed flange therebetween while the lip protector has a cavity and load transferring surfaces located in the cavity. When assembled the load transferring surfaces are in mating contact with the laterally disposed flange of the protector mounting lug. First and second pairs of aligned openings are located in the lip protector and, when assembled, are in general alignment with the openings located in each boss of the pair of bosses. Flex pins are disposed in the openings to secure the lip protector to the protector mounting lug.

  • Patent number: 5333696
Abstract: Reversible protectors are normally utilized to protect the leading edge of a work member from high wear during use. It is also advantageous to have a reversible protector that can be secured to a work member even though the work member may be composed of several components which are welded together thus adversely affecting the tolerances between the various components. In this subject arrangement, a reversible protector is provided and adapted to be mounted on and secured to a work member. The reversible protector has recesses located in the lower end thereof which, when assembled, are in mating engagement with protuberances on the work member. This mating engagement secures the lower end of the reversible protector to the work member. A pair of aligned openings are provided near the other end thereof which aligns with a transverse hole in the work member for receiving a retaining mechanism therethrough.
