The present system for attaching a wear member to a parent member provides many advantages over the past configurations. For example, the unique configuration of the mounting base and wear member include cooperating slide and place engagement elements for mounting purposes. Also, a unique low profile retainer is used to retain the wear member, which allows for more use of the wear member before replacement is required, thus resulting is less throw-away material.

  • Patent number: 5913605
Abstract: A wear runner assembly includes a base which is representatively secured to an excavating bucket wall surface, and a wear runner which is releasably connectable to the base by moving the wear runner in a locking direction parallel to the surface to engage tongues on the base with grooves on the wear runner and thereby prevent removal of the wear runner from the base in a removal direction transverse to the surface and the locking direction. By moving the wear runner relative to the base in an unlocking direction opposite to the locking direction the connected wear runner may then be moved in the removal direction to separate the wear runner from the base.

  • Patent number: 5862764
Abstract: A method and apparatus for a harrow is provided, and more particularly to a harrow implement with a terrain following frame, able to be pulled by a tractor. The improved harrow includes a main frame that supports at least a floating frame on which harrowing blades are attached. The harrow blades follow the contours of a field or bed of soil, resulting in greatly improved tilling when compared to conventional apparatus used for this purpose. The harrow specifically suits the needs of a reduced tillage farming operation. The harrow is wide, yet the floating frames follow irregular surface contours, significantly improving the potential range of topography that can be farmed efficiently. The harrow can include a clod diverter to move or deflect clods to the irrigation furrows, away from the planting rows. It can also be customized in the field to handle the individual field's requirements, including tilling depth and seed row separation distances.

  • Patent number: 5564508
Abstract: Replaceable wear runners are disclosed for protecting a structure, such as a bucket, from abrasive materials. Such wear runners include a mounting base that is welded to the structure and a replaceable wear cover. Apparatus for releasably retaining the cover to the mounting base permits quick and easy mounting and removal of the wear cover without the use of special tools. The retaining apparatus includes an arcuate retainer that is slidably received into an arcuate slot accessible through the top of the cover.

  • Patent number: 5438774
Abstract: Mechanically attached adapters are beneficial in cutting edge assemblies for the ease of assembly and disassembly. However, they must be easily assembled and disassembled and must be able to withstand harsh operating conditions. In the subject arrangement, a cutting edge assembly is provided including a base edge having a stop member solidly secured thereto spaced from a leading edge thereof and extending upwardly from the base edge. A mechanically attached adapter has a forward working end portion and a rearward end portion for securing the mechanically attached adapter to the base edge. The rearward end portion has an upper strap portion, a lower strap portion spaced from the upper strap portion and interconnected therewith by an intermediate portion to define a cavity. The upper strap portion has an elongate slot which receives the stop member during assembly. A portion of the base edge is received in the cavity and a retainer mechanism is disposed in the elongate slot spaced from the stop member.

  • Patent number: 5415236
Abstract: The subsoiler has shank assemblies which are designed to cut a thin, clean slice in the soil without frontal upheaval forces that would cause eruption of the soil in a turbulent manner ahead of the shank line. The soil lifting components at the bottom of the shank are configured to produce generally laminar soil flow over and around their lifting surfaces so that the upwardly and outwardly directed fracturing forces occur behind the leading shank line in a readily controllable manner and without disturbing residue and other materials on top of the ground. The subsoiling profile at the bottom of the shank may be varied by interchanging variously configured points and caps which are securely but removably secured to the shank. An alternate embodiment provides adjustment of the profile presented to the soil by having a portion of the component angularly vertically adjustable to vary the angle of attack of its lifting surfaces.
