Abstract: A drilling system can include a drill bit defining a longitudinal axis between distal and proximal ends. The drill bit can be configured to rotate about the longitudinal axis and to cut material at the distal end. The drill bit can include a plurality of chain assemblies; each chain assembly can comprise a set of cogs and a chain. The chain can be made up of a plurality of links, each link having teeth positioned in rows extending radially around the link, the teeth configured to rotate axially around the chain as the teeth engage a material for cutting. The plurality of chain assemblies can comprise at least a first chain assembly and a second chain assembly which are driven in opposite directions.
Abstract: Outdoor power equipment includes an engine having a throttle and a drive shaft, a driven shaft, a tool coupled to the driven shaft. The engine further includes a transmission coupling the drive and driven shafts and providing a mechanical advantage therebetween. The transmission automatically changes the mechanical advantage in response to torque experienced by the driven shaft.
Abstract: A gear transmission device for a power tool. The device transmits rotation of an input shaft to an output shaft, which are coaxially rotated. The input shaft includes a distal portion, and the output shaft includes a basal portion facing towards the distal portion of the input shaft. The gear transmission device includes a support arranged on one of the distal portion of the input shaft and the basal portion of the output shaft. A socket is arranged in the other one of the distal portion of the input shaft and the basal portion of the output shaft. The socket includes a hollow portion for rotatably accommodating the support.
Abstract: A ground-boring device with a ground auger, which features a boring spindle driven by an engine-transmission unit. A framework is provided with a travelling gear. On the grip ends of the framework is provided a handgrip arrangement located during operation of the device at roughly the gripping level of a service person and a seating device for mounting of the engine-transmission unit of the ground auger, arranged in a longitudinal direction to the framework at a horizontal distance from the travelling gear. The handgrip arrangement is positioned such that the boring spindle essentially runs vertically so that the seating device permits a swinging of the ground auger in relation to the longitudinal direction of the framework during its penetration into the ground.
Abstract: The multipurpose earth drill is tractor mountable with hydraulic operators to allow using the weight of the tractor for downward pressure on an extensible shaft earth drill which may be an auger or rack bit, the drill being rotated using an extensible shaft from the power take-off of the tractor and moved upward and downward with a pair of hydraulic operators that allow minimizing the overall height of the unit. The auger and auger drive gears are completely enclosed for personnel safety.
Abstract: A mining roof bolt drill feed mechanism whereby the drill is supported on a horizontal pylon extending from an elongate slot in a vertical box section inner strut. The inner strut telescopes within an outer box section strut with an aligned elongate slot, and the pylon is supported on the nut of a dual concentric worm and nut drive system located within the telescopic struts. Elastomeric seals are provided over the elongate slots to prevent the ingress of dust from the mining operation.
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus comprising a side drive system with a drive shaft (24, 24a) driven from the platform level (10) and powering a drilling unit (16) for rotating drill pipe (14). Except for the tethering of the drive shaft at the top of the derrick (60-64) and its coupling to a power source (70) at the platform level, there is preferably no stabilizing means for the system. The drive shaft (24, 24a) is stationary, preferably hollow, and extends the height of the derrick located to one side of the main drilling axis. The power source (70) at the platform level comprises a power takeoff from a conventional rotary table (84). The upper drive assembly (18) of the drilling unit (16) is coupled to the drive shaft (24, 24a) and capable of vertical movement along the drive shaft and providing torque to the drill string.

Abstract: Drilling apparatus embodying an elongated boxed-in frame supporting a transmission unit for longitudinal movement therein with the transmission unit connecting a polygonal drive shaft to a driven head which is threadedly connected to a drill rod section. A first drive unit carried by the elongated frame has a drive shaft in axial alignment with one end of the polygonal shaft with the other end of the polygonal shaft being in axial alignment with the drive shaft of a second drive unit. The drive units exert torque concomitantly at opposite ends of the polygonal shaft to rotate both ends of the polygonal shaft in the same direction. The elongated frame is carried by a supporting frame mounted for rotation about a vertical axis on a translatable frame to position the driven head at selected angular positions about the vertical axis.
Abstract: Drilling apparatus embodying an elongated frame supports a transmission unit for longitudinal movement therein. The transmission unit carries a drive head slidably driven by a polygonal, parallel drive shaft and is threadedly connected to one end of a drill rod section in axial alignment therewith. The other end of the drill rod section is connected selectively to another drill rod section and a drill bit. A drill rod rack is mounted for rotation about an axis within the elongated frame and carries a plurality of angularly spaced drill rod sections which are moved sequentially into axial alignment with the driven head whereby it is positioned to drill a hole while extending through the rack. The drill rod sections extend through angularly spaced passageways in a support member which is carried by a shaft at the axis of rotation of the drill rod rack.
Abstract: An earth drilling method and apparatus utilizes a unique drill string rotary drive and support arrangement which provides for the utilization of longer drill strings than could heretofore be accommodated on prior art drill masts of equal height.
Abstract: An earth auger arrangement wherein a power source is mounted on wheels for moving the power source over the earth's surface with means connected to the power source for relaying power to a transmission with which an auger is connected. Handle means are connected to the transmission for manually positioning the auger in relation to the earth's surface to penetrate it at a desired angle with throttle means on the handle means to control the power source. Shaft means are pivotally connected to and extend between the power source and the handle means to reduce counter rotation or counter torque from being exerted on the operator when the auger is rotated to penetrate the earth.
Abstract: A flexible shaft is connected directly to the crank shaft of a snowmobile engine by a coupler. The flexible shaft drives a reduction gear which is enclosed in a hand-held housing. The reduction gear rotates a drive shaft at a substantially reduced speed and the drive shaft connects to the ice auger bit through a coupler which allows disengagement of the bit when no downward pressure is applied to the housing.
Abstract: A safety earth auger is employed for forming post holes and in similar uses. The auger is supported pivotally beween elongated handles and is driven from an engine mounted on a remote frame. The frame has ground wheels which provide for stability during operation while permitting the frame to pivot as the auger enters the earth.
