Abstract: A reversing mechanism for a pneumatically or hydraulically powered tool having a rotor adapted to selectively rotate in either one of first and second rotational directions. The reversing mechanism allows a user to actuate a button that rotates a valve to direct air flow through the tool. By pressing the button, the button will move a base laterally, and in doing so, rotates the valve. Rotating the valve distributes fluid to cause the rotor to rotate in a selected rotational direction.

Abstract: A power tool includes a fluidically-driven prime mover controlled by a multi-stage, throttle-actuated dual-ported mechanism disposed in the power tool. When the first stage is actuated, pressurized fluid is admitted into the prime mover via a first delivery path in fluid communication with one of the ports. When the second stage is actuated, pressurized fluid is also admitted into the prime mover via a second delivery path in fluid communication with the other port to augment the volume of pressurized fluid admitted into the prime mover via the first delivery path. In one embodiment of the present invention, the prime mover includes a dual-chamber air motor. Upon detecting an imminent stall condition, an operator can axially advance a trigger stem to admit a boost of pressurized air into the motor via the second delivery path.

The chamber (2) is on its side of the maximum diameter open, and on the side of its minimum diameter limited by means of a wall (3), in the middle of which a hole (4) is provided, through which a shaft (5) passes with a clearance, the shaft (5) carrying the rolling rotor (7). The shaft (5) is inside the chamber (2) provided with a recess (8), the diameter of which is larger than the diameter of the hole (4) in the wall (3).

  • Patent number: 6644420
Abstract: A turning device for compressed air tools. which is operated by a compressed fluid, is provided with a housing and with a rotor, which is rotatably arranged in a front housing part and into whose turbine element the fluid, which is under pressure, can flow, has a braking arrangement and a switch for the compressed fluid. The switch which is operatively connected with the braking arrangement and is arranged on a rear housing part in line with a compressed fluid supply conduit. Such a turning device requires fewer components and can be stopped in a simpler and faster way by a fluid switch, in the form of a sliding switch, which encloses the rear housing part in the area of the supply conduit and is provided with axially oriented control pins, which are connected, fixed against relative displacement, with a brake disk of the braking arrangement.

Abstract: A portable trimmer in which the power generated by an internal combustion engine is transmitted to a cutter via a centrifugal clutch and the output power of the internal combustion engine is controlled by operating a manual throttle lever, thereby adjusting the throttle opening of a throttle valve via a throttle wire. The portable trimmer includes a friction member arranged to face the clutch drum of the centrifugal clutch, a moving member which is connected to the friction member and moves the friction member between a braking position where the friction member is pressed against the clutch drum and a non-braking position where the friction member is kept away from the clutch drum so as to release the braking, a manual release device for moving the moving member from the braking position to the non-braking position, and a release restricting device for controlling the behavior of the manual release device.

  • Patent number: 6250399
Abstract: The invention is a pneumatic tool with a reverse valve having an overdrive. In particular, the pneumatic tool includes a housing, a rotor, rotatably mounted within the housing, an output shaft operatively coupled to the rotor, and pressure chambers defined between the housing and the rotor. A pneumatic reverse valve having an overdrive is operatively coupled to the rotor. The overdrive provides increased torque and increased speed to the output shaft. The reverse valve controls flow of pressurized air to a multi-chambered motor of the tool such that the direction of the motor can be reversed and the number of pressure chambers receiving pressurized air can be selected regardless of direction.

Abstract: A trimming machine includes a centrifugal clutch for transmitting power from an internal combustion engine to a cutting blade. A manually operated throttle lever controls an output from the internal combustion engine by adjusting an opening of a throttle valve via a throttle wire. A friction member arranged to oppose to a clutch drum of the centrifugal clutch. A first swinging member is connected to the friction member and swings between a braking position to be pressed against the clutch drum and a releasing position to be spaced from the clutch drum. A second swinging member is connected to a connecting point at an intermediate portion of the throttle wire and pivots about a pivoting pin thereof with respect to the first swinging member when the throttle wire is moved by operating the throttle lever.

  • Patent number: 6047780
Abstract: A speed adjusting apparatus for a pneumatically driven power tool includes a control valve that is adapted to be mounted rotatably within an intake passageway in an outer housing. A connecting rod extends through a pivot hole in a rear cover, and interconnects the valve and a rotary member that is disposed rotatably on the rear cover in such a manner that the valve rotates synchronously with the rotary member. The rotary member can be rotated to align an intake outlet passageway in the valve with a selected one of a forward passageway and a reverse passageway in the rear cover. When the intake outlet passageway is aligned with the forward passageway, a tool head rotates in a direction. When the intake outlet passageway is aligned with the reverse passageway, the tool head rotates in the opposite direction.

Abstract: A pneumatic rotary tool capable of operating in forward and reverse directions includes a housing and an output shaft projecting from the housing for transmitting torque to an object. An air motor drives rotation of the output shaft in the forward and reverse directions. Air passages extend from an air inlet to the motor for delivering pressurized air to the motor. One passage delivers air to the motor to power the motor to drive the output shaft in the forward direction and the other passage delivers air to the motor to power the motor to drive the output shaft in the reverse direction. A selector valve is disposed between the air inlet and the air passages such that fluid communication between the air inlet and the air passages is blocked except through the selector valve.
