Means To Control Advance And Cyclically Reciprocate A Cable-operated Hammer Or Tool Patents (Class 173/81)
  • Patent number: 10941538
Abstract: A new hammering system with electromagnetic power for dynamic pile testing. The basic working principle of the hammering system is as follows: when an internal coil is energized, a magnetic force is generated to attract tightly, via a magnetic conduction panel, an adaptive weight hammer disposed in contact with the surface of the panel; when the internal coil is de-energized, demagnetization occurs, and the weight hammer falls instantaneously to impact the pile top, thereby achieving the effects of a stable weight hammer and quick attraction and falling of the hammer. A clamping scale is arranged inside an adjustment section of a guide frame. A falling height of the weight hammer may be selected arbitrarily.

Abstract: The post driver machine includes a housing, inside of which is a weight which can be lifted by a chain being rotated around a generally elliptical path by a powered sprocket. A catch mechanism is affixed to the chain, and can engage with a weight catch attached to the weight. However, when there is not a post positioned within the post driver, the weight rests at a position too low the weight catch to engage with the catch mechanism. Upon properly inserting a post into the post driver, the post presses upwardly on the weight until the weight catch engages with the catch mechanism to lift the weight.

Abstract: There is provided a guided drilling system and an in-the-hole shock absorber adapted thereto. The guided drilling system includes a drill string configured to continuously and accurately bore a hole in the ground without the need to periodically break the connection of the drill string. In order to protect the components of the drilling system a hollow core shock absorber for percussive drill strings has been designed. A centrally disposed coil spring transmits the necessary thrust to a percussive hammer while providing a resilient cushion for vibration displacement. Pressurized fluid flows through the center of the shock absorber through a poppet valve.

  • Patent number: 5330011
Abstract: A free fall stroker for raising and dropping a drop hammer for soils bearing testing or the like includes a housing through which a drop hammer cable extends from one side to the bottom thereof. A pair of guide pulleys guide the cable through the housing and a movable sheave operates within a parallelogram-shaped track with four legs, and is attached to a telescoping arm of a hydraulic stroking cylinder. When the arm is retracted, the sheave is moved in a first leg of the track and engages the cable, pulling it between the guide pulleys. When the sheave reaches the end of the first leg, it moves in a second leg in a second direction away from the guide pulleys. This causes the cable to be released, thus dropping the drop hammer and letting it free fall. Extension of the telescoping arm then returns the sheave to the point of origin via the third and fourth legs of the track. A winch is provided on top of the housing to adjust the cable length and a stroke counter counts the number of hammer strokes.

  • Patent number: 4989677
Abstract: A pile 13 is driven into the ground 5 by a ram 8 driven by a hydraulic cylinder 37. The pile 13 is guided through a guide 2 having a detachable end portion 4 which is embedded in the ground. The guide 2 and cylinder 37 are vertically slideable on a rail 3 and can be raised and lowered by a further hydraulic ram 39 located at the upper end of the rail 3. Further piles are loaded through a door 11 in the side of the guide 2 and each pile is driven in a single stroke. The apparatus is transportable on a tracked vehicle 41. By supporting the pile 13 in a tubular guide 2 during driving it is possible to use pile sections of small diameter which are light and easy to handle. Pile sections are connected using a tubular metal joint member.

  • Patent number: 4150727
Abstract: A device for applying an additional downward force to the rotating cutting tool of an earth boring machine. The machine has a mast and a rotating drive member suspended by the mast for vertical movement and for rotating the cutting tool. A rotatable drum is carried by hydraulic cylinders adjacent and below the top of the drive member. The drum has a brake and is connected by a downcrowding cable to the top of the drive member. Downward movement of the hydraulic cylinders while the drum brake is locked creates tension in the cable, applying downward force to the drive member. A take-up cable is wrapped around the drum in the opposite direction. It is reeved over the mast and connected to the top of the drive member by a spring. The spring takes up slack in the cable when the hydraulic cylinder returns for a new stroke and allows the kelly to move downward as the drum is pulled down by the cylinder.
