Abstract: Techniques for the construction and use of cable protectors are described herein. The cable protectors may be used to protect cables in a wide variety of applications, locations and environments, including a utility (e.g., water or gas) metering application. In one example, the cable protector may protect a cable connecting a water meter to a radio. The cable protector may be constructed of a ribbon of durable material (e.g., stainless steel) configured as a helix. The helix may define a central channel through which the cable may pass. The cable protector may have spacing between adjacent turns of the helix that are too narrow to allow attack of the cable by animals. Exact dimensions may depend largely on a size of a cable to protect, and an environment and use of the cable.

  • Patent number: 7122739
Abstract: A universal ground strap assembly including a strap having a series of uniformly sized and spaced apertures to facilitate the installation of the ground strap assembly onto a wide range of structures of various shaped and sized cross-sections is provided. A stud, through which the strap is secured, includes a terminal portion adapted to accommodate and have secured therein a ground wire. The stud includes a curved surface to engage the elongated strap with smooth transition. The stud may be captivated on the strap by at least one projection extending into the hole in the strap within which the stud is held. A curved sliding nut supported upon the strap and a curved surface of the stud are used to form a tight clamping action of the strap about the structure to be grounded, without subjecting the strap to localized stresses or tearing, but permitting the strap to tightly encircle the structure. The curved sliding nut is also captivated on the strap with stops and defines a hole to receive the stud.

  • Patent number: 6826837
Abstract: A sleeve for surrounding a power cord, in whole or in part, for appliances such as hedge trimmers. The sleeve, preferably composed of a lightweight polymeric material in corrugated, convoluted, or similar form, has relatively large radial dimensions compared to the cord and therefore resists the insertion of the sleeve and the cord into appliances (such as a hedge trimmers cutting blades) thereby preventing damage to the sleeve and the cord and preventing other undesired results. The relatively large size of the sleeve tends to increase the user's awareness of the sleeve and cord. Also the sleeve's increased rigidity compared to the cord aids in preventing the cord from being entangled in the appliance and assists in managing and manipulating the cord. The sleeve includes at least one aperture to facilitate the dissipation of heat generated by the power cord.

  • Patent number: 6800812
Abstract: A universal ground clamp having a clamping strap having a series of holes to facilitate the installation of the clamp onto a wide range of structures of various shaped and sized cross-sections. A metal stud, through which the clamping strap is secured, includes a terminal portion adapted to accommodate and have secured therein a ground wire. In one form, a pair of curved plates supported upon the stud are used to form a tight clamping action of the strap about the structure to be grounded, without subjecting the strap to localized stresses or tearing, but permitting the strap to tightly encircle the structure. One of the curved plates is captivated on the strap with stops. In another form, projections extend from the strap at the hole through which the stud is inserted in order to allow the stud to be readily inserted into the hole and prevent the stud from being inadvertently separated from the strap.
