  • Patent number: 6465729
Abstract: A method for producing an electrical feedthru wherein a thin liquid conductive film is deposited into a shallow trough of an insulating machinable substrate. The conductive film and substrate are fired and then the resulting bound composite is ground flush with the adjacent surface of the insulating machinable substrate. The surface cohesion of the fired composite, and the resulting high quality surface finish of the grinding operation, combined with an elastomeric seal, create low leakage barriers capable of supporting a pressure differential while allowing isolated electrical conduction across a pressure or vacuum envelope. The method produces a space saving feedthru which allows a high signal line density in a limited space, is relatively simple to assemble, allows for disassembly rework, can be ‘designed into’ unique geometries of varied applications, and which has a single O-ring sealing across all traces.

  • Patent number: 6140573
Abstract: An improved hollow core composite bushing for use in, for example, a dead tank circuit breaker, is smaller and lighter and offers other advantages over previous designs. The hollow core bushing includes therein a fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) elongated tube that operates to increase the dielectric constant between a conductor and a transition shield. By placing the transition shield external to the hollow core bushing and providing the FRP tube between the conductor and transition shield, the dielectric constant between the shield and conductor is increased thus allowing the inner diameter of the shield and outer diameter of the bushing to be decreased. In addition, the transition shield may be an integral part of the flange that is mounted to the bushing current transformer support column or interrupter enclosure of the dead tank circuit breaker thus further reducing the diameter and overall size of the bushing. Further, the transition shield may be an integral part of the FRP tube.

Abstract: A head type current transformer having an aluminum head housing mounted on top of and supported by a porcelain insulator. The head housing and insulator together define an enclosure housing therein an, insulated, electrical component immersed in a liquid dielectric. The transformer unit is rendered explosion resistant by having a shock wave attenuator located at least partially in the liquid in the vicinity of the juncture of the housing and insulator to reduce the force of a shock wave originating in the head housing below that which would cause fracturing of the porcelain insulator. A selected area of the wall of the head housing is also patterned to facilitate its rupture in a predetermined area which is in the region of the highest voltage stress area. A filler material of felt is also used to displace a portion of the oil dielectric at the area of weakness.

  • Patent number: 5200578
Abstract: A feedthrough bushing for a high voltage diode provides for using compression sealing for all sealing surfaces. A diode assembly includes a central conductor extending through the bushing and a grading ring assembly circumferentially surrounding and coaxial with the central conductor. A flexible conductive plate extends between and compressively seals against the central conductor and the grading ring assembly, wherein the flexibility of the plate allows inner and outer portions of the plate to axially translate for compression sealing against the central conductor and the grading ring assembly, respectively. The inner portion of the plate is bolted to the central conductor for affecting sealing. A compression beam is also bolted to the central conductor and engages the outer portion of the plate to urge the outer portion toward the grading ring assembly to obtain compression sealing therebetween.
