In one embodiment, a strain relief apparatus comprises: a main body having a base member including a first surface and a second surface, and a cone member extending from the first surface of the base member, the cone member including an orifice that penetrates through the main body to the second surface; a primary clamp that secures to the main body and shaped to interface with the base member to form a first set of clamping surfaces where the orifice penetrates the second surface; and a secondary clamp having a tapered cavity therein that penetrates through the secondary clamp and is shaped to receive the cone member. A surface of the tapered cavity and a surface of the cone member form a second set of clamping surfaces. The second set of clamping surfaces provide an electrical path to the chassis.

Abstract: A soft cable boot is snapped on or molded around a cable or cable harness. The cable boot has a three dimensional interlock structure on its circumference via which it interlocks with an interlock teeth profile of a boot clamp. While the boot clamp is mounted and tied down, the interlock teeth profile is pressed into the three dimensional interlock structure and the cable or cable harness is three dimensionally form fitting and elastically fixed, whereby vibration related cable wear is reduced. A boot assembly tool may be used to snap the cable boot onto the cable and/or to inject a sealant into the assembled boot clamp or mold the boot clamp around the cable.

  • Patent number: 7732708
Abstract: A device for limiting loads on towers that limits loads only in the longitudinal direction and does not affect the manner in which vertical and transverse loads are resisted by the structure. The device incorporates a shield to prevent ice buildup that could affect its operation. It also has optional antifriction bearings to provide a consistent release force independent of the amount of ice that may accumulate on the wires. The device is of simple construction. The device includes an optional energy absorber, such as that used in U.S. Pat. No. 3,211,260 that can provide a resisting force that is within the longitudinal strength of the tower. The device includes both a mechanical fuse and an energy absorbing mechanism that is used to arrest the wire movement. The energy absorber can extend as much as 50 ft to safely absorb the energy released by broken wires with heavy ice coatings.

Abstract: A damper assembly staking system that provides for staking damper weights onto a messenger is disclosed. The damper assembly includes damper weights having a forked side which accepts a messenger. A hole is drilled in the forked side of the damper weight to receive the messenger. A staking hole is then drilled into the bottom of the damper weights. The staking hole extends just past the side of the messenger hole and is sized to receive a staking ball. Staking of the damper weight is accomplished by pressing the staking ball into the staking hole via a hardened dowel pin to secure the messenger within the damper weights.

Abstract: A vibration resistant cable may be provided. The vibration resistant cable may comprise a first conductor and a second conductor. The second conductor may be twisted around the first conductor at a lay length configured to cause a locking force between the first conductor and the second conductor. The locking force may be configured to prevent relative movement of the first conductor and the second conductor that may result in bags in the vibration resistant cable. The lay length may be predetermined or may vary a predetermined amount per unit of length of the vibration resistant cable. The lay length may be c1d+c2, where d may be the diameter of the first conductor and the second conductor and c1 and c2 may be constants configured to obtain the locking force to eliminate bags in the vibration resistant cable and provide Aeolian vibration dampening in the vibration resistant cable.

Abstract: A spacer and/or spacer damper that provides for uniform spacing of horizontally bundled sub-conductors as well as enhanced heat dissipation is disclosed. More particularly, when applied to electrical transmission lines, the configuration of the spacer and/or spacer damper can include formed-wire outer rods which increase the conductor surface area thereby enhance heat dissipation. In other words, the outer rod assembly disclosed herein can provide for minimizing damaging effects of motion while enhancing heat dissipation of the underlying conductor and connector arm. Still further, the subject spacer or spacer damper can alleviate entangling of the sub-conductors most often caused by galloping, ice unloading, and fault currents.
