Coaxial Patents (Class 174/71C)
  • Patent number: 6162991
Abstract: An electronic device is provided which is configured for attachment to a coaxial cable having a central conductor and an outer conductor. The electronic circuit includes connection conductors that each have a central conductor connection end that is configured to have a portion for engaging and penetrating into the central conductor and to have a further portion serving to impede the connection conductors from becoming withdrawn from the coaxial cable. The configuration of the ends of the connection conductors can be that of an arrowhead. An enclosure is provided around the electronic circuit and the portion of the coaxial cable to which the electronic circuit will be coupled by the connection conductors. In addition, the central conductor are made discontinuous between the points at which the connection conductors engage into the central conductor.

  • Patent number: 5945634
Abstract: A method of forming a tap into an intermediate point on a continuous coaxial cable, and a coaxial cable tap housing suitable for forming such a tap. The tap housing includes a recess and an alignment element having a predetermined spatial relationship with the recess. The recess has an entry, an exit and a passage connecting the entry and exit. When the tap housing is fixed to a cable, the exit of the recess is closer to the outer conductor of the cable than the entry of the recess is to the outer conductor. The alignment element is used to position a cutting tool which is inserted through the entry of the recess to form an opening in the outer conductor and a cavity in the dielectric under the opening. A tap insert, which includes a coupler assembly, is mounted to the housing, and the coupler assembly is inserted through the entry of the recess and through the opening into the cavity formed in the cable. In specific embodiments, the recess and opening are elongated.

  • Patent number: 5602365
Abstract: A duplexer, useable to interlink the receiver, transmitter and antenna units of a microwave transmit/receive system takes the form of a "T" junction coupling device and three coaxial lines extending from junction ends at such device to coaxial end connectors on the ends of such lines away from such device. The "T" junction coupling device comprises a copper block having a central cavity and three bores leading into such cavity, a copper cap to close the top of such cavity, a copper disc disposed in said cavity away from its walls and containing a central space and three passages leading into said spaces and corresponding to said bores, and three brass ferrules for such lines. The ferrules are seated on the junction ends of such lines and are soldered to their outer conductors and are pressed fitted into the three bores. The inner conductors are received in the three passages in the disc and are all soldered thereto.

  • Patent number: 5338897
Abstract: In a semiconductor device, an on chip coaxial cable reduces noise from adversely affecting a signal transmitted by a signal conductor. The signal conductor lies within and is isolated from a second conductor. A dielectric, such as oxide, may provide isolation. In multi level metal devices, such as double level metal devices, the signal conductor can be formed of a first level of metal and a portion of the second conductor can be formed of the first level of metal also. After forming a first level of metal, it is patterned to separate the first signal conductor from a first conductive noise shield and a second conductive noise shield. A second level of metal and a conductive level of material such as polysilicon can complete formation of the second conductor. Oxide insulators can provide isolation between the signal conductor and the second conductor by lying between the top conductive noise shield and the signal conductor and by lying between the bottom conductive noise shield and the signal conductor.

  • Patent number: 5266740
Abstract: A protecting cover for coaxial connectors includes a pair of half T-shaped casing members which are pivotally connected together by a linking portion for receiving a T-type coaxial connector assembly. The protecting cover has a pair of plugs and sockets respectively formed in lateral portions of each casing member in one side just opposite to the linking portion for engaging the two casing members together to enclose the coaxial connector assembly therein. A hook is formed on the surface of one of the casing members to hang the protecting cover in an appropriate place.

  • Patent number: 4822956
Abstract: Electro-static discharge is a problem with high-speed data even when using coaxial cables. Primarily, this problem arises at the terminal ends of the circuit where connections are made using separate coaxial cables for connecting to various pieces of equipment thereby allowing voltages to be induced differently in each such cable. This problem can be overcome by combining a portion of each cable such that the shield around each signal carrying wire remains intact while also being solidly in contact with the shield from the other wire. The cable is constructed by removing the outer insulation from a section of two single coaxial cables, electrically connecting together the exposed shields of each cable at both ends of the exposed section and reinsulating the abutted cables so that the shields remain in contact along their entire length.

  • Patent number: 4464583
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for single-point, multi-point or cross-bonding electrical power cables. The apparatus includes an electrically insulated housing which defines an access well, two electrical conductors each having one end disposed within the well, a cover for closing-off the well, a linking device carried by the cover for removably and electrically connecting together those ends of the two electrical conductors which are disposed within the well, and a connecting device for electrically connecting the linking device to a terminal on the exterior of the housing. In the preferred embodiment a movable over-voltage protective device or surge arrester is electrically interposed between the linking device and the connecting device. When the cover is installed two electrical conductors are electrically connected together and to the surge arrester. Other embodiments are described and illustrated.

  • Patent number: 4161012
Abstract: Arresters for protecting electrical equipment from damage or destruction due to overvoltage surges, for example overvoltage surges caused by lightning strokes, are provided that are fabricated or assembled integrally with cable taps, cable joints, separable insulated connector apparatus, and overhead arrester assemblies. Arresters are also provided for insertion in arrester receptacles which are integrally provided with cable taps, joints, separable insulated connector apparatus or cable receptacle devices. The arresters include a laminated enclosure for excluding the atmosphere, air and moisture, along the outer surfaces of arrester components and along the outer surface of an insulating housing layer, as well as along interfaces with insulated power cable and separable insulated arrester components. The housing is either fabricated by coating or molding onto the arrester components or by inserting the arrester components in an interference fit relationship into a premolded elastomeric enclosure.

  • Patent number: 4124772
Abstract: A main transmission line with inner and outer metallic layers on a dielectric tube is joined to a coaxial branch line via a pin and a sleeve forming extensions of the inner and outer conductors of that branch line, the pin penetrating two diametrically opposite bores of the dielectric tube while the sleeve is in contact with the outer metallic layer. Two lugs on the sleeve are soldered to that outer layer whereas a connection between the inner layer and the pin is established via a conductive coating of the wall of the remote bore which terminates in a metallic patch surrounding the outer end of that bore, the patch being insulated from the outer layer of the tube and being soldered to the projecting tip of the pin.
