    Abstract: Main circuit breakers and/or tie circuit breakers are connected by upper and lower disconnects to upper and lower sections, respectively, of split risers in a low voltage switchgear assembly. An upper horizontal bus is connected to the upper sections of the split risers while a lower horizontal bus is connected to the lower sections. However, with the main or tie breaker mounted in the "C" position of a switchgear section, the gap between the upper and lower sections of the split risers is positioned vertically such that one of the phase conductors of the lower horizontal bus is above the gap. A unique connector extends downward from this phase conductor and is connected to the corresponding phase of the lower section of the vertical bus through the lower stab which engages the lower disconnect for the main or tie breaker.

    Abstract: A panelboard/switchboard assembly for accommodating bolt-on modules, plug-in modules and lugs. The panelboard/switchboard includes vertical, edge forward bus bars having a plurality of openings formed therein. The edge forward alignment allows plug-in modules to be mounted to the bus bars. The openings in the bus bars receive bolts for mounting straps to the bus bars and for mounting lugs to the bus bars. The openings have a shape having at least one linear element and receive a bolt having an anti-rotation portion with a similar shape. The interference between the opening and the anti-rotation portion of the bolt prevents the straps, and the modules connected to the straps, from rotating.

    Abstract: A bus bar panel system utilizes a quick acting and simplified fastening system for making connections. The bus bar is preferably pre-perforated along the edges, although holes may be drilled at the time of fastening. The fastening system uses a stud having threads on one end for receiving the usual washers and nut. On the other end, usually away from the installer, the stud is provided with flats which engage an open slot or yoke on a keeper clip. The clip has a gauge flange to engage the edge of the bar or clamp through which the stud extends. The transverse dimensions of the open slot are related to the flats and the length of the slot to the distance of the perforations from the edge of the bar. The clip also includes a spring section which grabs the end of the stud holding the clip in place so that the installer has both hands free to secure the nut and washers.

    Abstract: An electrical power distribution busway joint is shown and described. The joint is configurable to electrically couple the phase busbars, the neutral busbar(s) and the ground busbars of adjacent busway sections. Each of the phase and neutral busbars from adjacent busway sections are in electrical contact with the inside surfaces of a pair of rectangular connector plates. The connector plates are fabricated from a conductive material to include at least one opening and a spacing tab fabricated from at least a portion of the material removed from the plate to form the hole. The spacing tabs of the plates cooperate to maintain a space between the plates which facilitates insertion of a busbar into the space. The tabs also prevent over-insertion of busbars into the joints which may damage insulating material within the joint. The outside surfaces of the connector plates are each engaged by a rectangular insulator formed from a section of pultruded insulating material.

    Abstract: An improved packaging scheme for a CPU of a main frame computer improves the performance while at the same reduces the cost of manufacture of the main frame computer. A single packaging technology is used to package the whole CPU and eliminates cable connections inside the CPU. Surface power bus technology permits the fabrication of a module with chips mounted on both front and back sides of the substrate. The surface power bus is installed on one or both sides of the module surface and derives power directly from the power cable and distributes power to chip sites directly. In a specific implementation, a uni-processor CPU with chips mounted on both surfaces of the substrate and power fed from the surface power bus results in improved processor package density and system performance.

The bus-bar unit has first and second setting surfaces, a plurality of exposed parts of the bus bars arranged on the first setting surface and an ear holding part arranged on the second setting surface. In the arrangement, the ear part of the flat cable is attached to the ear holding part while the exposed conductive part of the cable is attached to the first setting surface.

    Abstract: An improved design for an electrical insulated "through" boot for a bare joint area formed by two electrical conductors made of a molded member arranged longitudinally around the joint area and having a main body portion with opposed flap members. Each flap member is coextensive with the main body portion and has a distal end. When the molded member is arranged around the joint area, the distal end of each flap member is wrapped around each other in an overlapping manner to form a seal and to enclose the joint area. The ends of the boot can be secured in place by clamps or wire ties. The boot is easily removed without being destroyed for maintenance of the conductors and is therefore reusable.

A conducting strap member interconnects the first and second bus members. The conducting strap member includes first and second strap plates electrically insulated from one another and secured to one another. A first of the strap plates is connected to the positive plates and a second of the strap plates is connected to the negative plates. Also included is a capacitor bank for storing DC power. The capacitor bank is connected to the DC bus by laminated brackets carrying positive and negative signals.

    Abstract: A laminated bus bar is supported on an elongate, rigid substrate, and has at least one, thin, metal terminal projecting laterally therefrom beyond one of the side edges of the substrate. A generally rigid torque clip, which may be made from a plastic material, is mounted on the substrate, and has thereon an integral lug portion, which also projects laterally beyond the same side edge of the substrate, and in registry with the terminal. The terminal has secured thereon a PEM nut or the like, which is positioned in an opening or a recess in the lug portion to retain the terminal in a predetermined position during use. If desired the terminal may be folded around the nut, or may be provided with a tab which is secured in an opening in the lug portion of the terminal.

    Abstract: A bus coupling for connection to bus in an electrical system including a coupling having a substantially cylindrical outer surface and an inner surface for receiving the bus. A portion of the outer surface of the coupling and the bus are compressed by a swaging tool until they plastically deform radially inwardly to form a swaged connection. An anti-oxidant composition may be applied between the coupling and the bus, with an annular groove in the inner surface of the coupling accumulating any of the excess composition. A counterbore on the inner surface at one end of the coupling may be filled with a sealing material to prevent water accumulation that could weaken the connection in freezing climates. The one end of the coupling also has a smooth, curved surface to reduce the adverse consequences normally associated with the corona effect.

The channels enclose and secure at least one stack of conductive busbars in place. At least one of the top or bottom housing channels is adjustably mounted between the side channels so the overall housing may be adjusted to accommodate various arrangements of busbars or busbars having different thicknesses. In a preferred form of the invention, the adjustable channels include holes which are aligned with elongate slots through the side channels. Fasteners extending through the aligned holes and slots allow the adjustable channel to be moved and fixed at different locations along the elongate slot.

    Abstract: This present invention provides an inexpensive and easily installed supplementary joint cover system for preventing dripping or splashing water from entering the joint between two adjacent sections of electrical busway. Each busway section includes a housing having an enclosure for surrounding and protecting a plurality of electrical conductors. A pair of housing sides are attached to and spaced apart by the enclosure such that two generally U-shaped troughs are formed. The joint cover system includes four dam assemblies, four sealing strips, two cover plates, two inspection hole plugs, and two connecting channels. Each of the two adjacent busway sections requires two dam assemblies to seal the busway housing at the joint. The dam assemblies form a water resistant block in the troughs formed by the busway housing. The sealing strips are placed across the dam assemblies and provide a seal for the cover plates.

On the narrow sides of the carrier plates, the facing end sections of the receptacles and/or the busbar sections accommodate one-half of connecting elements aligned in the longitudinal direction of the busbar sections. Each such reducer plate has tabs at each end, one for each single bolt coupler, so that the reducer plates in effect interconnect with the single bolt coupler in generally the same manner as do the bus plates of each bus duct. The apparatus also includes specialized joint covers for covering the joint thus created to prevent the entry of foreign objects.

They lie flat with the wide cross-sectional dimensions horizontal and side-by-side to each other in a plurality of groups of preferably three segments each. Within each group there is preferably insulation around each of the three bus bars and each group of three has insulation around it as a group. Within the joint box, the bared ends of the bus bars stop on a line substantially short of the bared ends of the next set of bus bars and a single conductive plate of thickness the same as that of each of the bus bars, which are themselves of the same thickness to each other, spans the gap between the bus bars connecting the two sets of bus bars to each other.

    Abstract: In a busway having plural busbars disposed with their broad sides in face-to-face relation, the ends of longitudinally aligned outside busbars are cut at complementary angles to create a single edge connecting segment for each busbar which extends through a phase transposition zone. Upper and lower transverse connectors are welded at their opposed ends to transversely aligned edge connecting segments to effectively reverse the phase positions of the busbars upstream and downstream of the transposition zone. If the busway includes two inside busbars, phase transposition is achieved in similar fashion. Once insulatively coated, the phase transpositioned busbars are nested together to create a compact transposition zone having a transverse dimension no greater than the busway therebeyond.

The bus bars overlap at their ends and have deep slots coming in from their ends to give them a deep U shape from the longitudinal standpoint in such joint setups. In the interior of the joint setups there are disc-shaped insulating spacers with interfitting circular projections and preferably there are also additional longitudinally elongated insulating spacers. In another form of joint setup which will be used for other joints in the same system, one of the overlapping bus bars will take a hook shape.

Each of the flexible conductors is covered by flexible insulation material bus joint covers. Adjustable clamping means on the ends of the clamping element apply clamping pressure on the stack through the levers. The support may form part of an enclosure for the bus bars and may include an insulated tray having offset slots for supporting the coupled bus bar sections in desired relation to each other.
