Patent number: 4258320Abstract: A magnetic sensor assembly including an elongated support is supported in a tubular housing by a pair of tapered foam sleeves that space the support from the inner surface of the housing and that resist movement of the assembly in the housing in a direction opposite to the direction of insertion of the assembly into the housing. The sleeves, which are either continuous hollow cylinders or are formed of wound strips, are attached to the support by adhesive tape at the leading end of each sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1978Date of Patent: March 24, 1981Assignee: Schonstedt Instrument CompanyInventor: Erick O. Patent number: 4197529Abstract: A specially configured cable, which, in use, has a cross section which is mmetrical to a vertical line, but asymmetrical to a horizontal line, is used for an intrusion detection system. It comprises an external sheath, which may be round or rectangular in cross section. An inner conductor is positioned below the center of the cable. It is supported in place by a thin, substantially flat, sheet of insulating material, which is attached to the inner surface of the outer sheath. This particular configuration maximizes the change in capacitance caused by an intruder passing over the cable. The cable is connected to a time-domain reflectometer, which can display on a screen the location of the intrusion with respect to an end of the cable as well as the probable type of intrusion.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1978Date of Patent: April 8, 1980Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Clarence F. Patent number: 4093818Abstract: The invention provides an assembly for accommodating service lines which comprises a length of ducting, a block of structural cellular material which fills the internal cross section of the ducting over at least a part of the length of the ducting, said block having cell walls which define cells which extend in the length direction of the ducting and on the cell walls a coating of intumescent material expandable to close the cells under fire conditions. With the block positioned where the ducting passes through a fire-resistant wall, the spread of fire through the ducting is usefully opposed. Using thermoplastic ducting, which has heretofore been contra-indicated, results superior to those obtainable with steel ducting are achieved.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1976Date of Patent: June 6, 1978Assignee: Dufaylite Developments LimitedInventors: Peter John Thwaites, Dennis William Green

Patent number: 3974440Abstract: A measuring transformer for a fully-insulated, metal-clad, high-voltage installation equipped with a metal outer tube containing a high-voltage conductor includes a tube member arranged within the metal outer tube in surrounding relation to the high-voltage conductor. The tube member constitutes a surface-type electrode an conjointly defines with the high-voltage conductor a high-voltage capacitor. A low-voltage capacitor is connected to the high-voltage capacitor so as to conjointly define therewith a capacitive voltage divider. A transformer core unit including an iron core and a transformer winding system mounted on the iron core is also provided. The transformer core unit is arranged on the outer surface of the tube member whereby the tube member carries the transformer core unit inside the metal outer tube of the high-voltage installation.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1974Date of Patent: August 10, 1976Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Heinz Schiemann, Albert Herrmann, Gerhard Kleen

Patent number: 3952243Abstract: A voltage transformer for an insulated high-voltage switching apparatus of the type including a metallic outer tubular casing in which an electrical conductor is disposed, and a tubular sleeve disposed about the conductor within the casing. The sleeve forms both a surface type electrode and in conjunction with the electrical conductor of the apparatus, a high potential capacitor. The improvement of the invention comprises a coupling arrangement, fabricated of electrical insulation material, which is fastened at one end of the tubular sleeve and is coupled to the casing of the apparatus. A support arrangement, also fabricated of electrical insulation material, is fastened at the other end of the tubular sleeve and disposed in engagement with the inner surface of the apparatus casing. The coupling and support arrangements function in conjunction with each other to support the tubular sleeve in the apparatus casing about the electrical conductor.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1974Date of Patent: April 20, 1976Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Albert Herrmann, Gerhard Kleen, Heinz Schiemann

Patent number: 3943433Abstract: A measuring transformer arrangement is provided for a fluid-insulated high-voltage installation with metal encapsulation carrying several conductors. The measuring transformer arrangement includes at least one conducting or semiconducting tube surrounding each conductor whereat at least one current transformer core with a system of secondary windings mounted on it is attached on the outside of the tube. The tubes are connected with each other and are attached to the metal encapsulation.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1974Date of Patent: March 9, 1976Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Wolfgang Hermstein, Heinz Schiemann

Patent number: 3942106Abstract: An improved voltage transformer for use in a gas insulated or liquid insulated high voltage switching installation enclosed within a metal encapsulation and carrying several conductors, in which each conductor is surrounded by a tube which is conductive at least on its surface which faces the conductor with the tubes connected to each other through attachment means which attach them in an insulated manner to the metal encapsulation. The resulting arrangement causes each tube together with the conductor within it to form a high potential capacitor which can be coupled in series with a low potential capacitor to form a voltage divider with the voltage taken off the low potential capacitor and used to provide an indication of the voltage present on the conductor. Tubes which are plastic with conductive coatings and metal tubes are disclosed with the tubes fastened to at least one support disk of insulating material which is then attached to the metal encapsulation.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1974Date of Patent: March 2, 1976Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Wolfgang Hermstein, Heinz Schiemann
