Patent number: 4600062Abstract: A well tool carried in a drill string for maintaining bottom hole contact while absorbing angular and axial shock forces of a rotating drill bit. The tool has an elongated body with pipe joint ends and includes a tubular mandrel slideably mounted within a tubular barrel. A groove and roller connection guides the mandrel within the barrel during drilling. Resilient shock absorbing members between metal guide rings are carried between stop elements on the mandrel and barrel. Shock forces are absorbed by the telescoping movements of the mandrel within the barrel and by in the members acted on by the stop elements. The mandrel is formed of two pieces that threadedly connect to one another between the resilient shock absorbing members and the groove and roller connection. A lifting lug positioned above the rollers and below the shock absorbing members within an elongate mandrel groove, engages the joint to transfer the weight of the mandrel to the barrel upon withdrawal of the tool.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 1984Date of Patent: July 15, 1986Assignee: 501 Dailey Petroleum Services CorporationInventor: Chuan C. Patent number: 4443206Abstract: A well tool carried in a drill string for maintaining bottom hole contact while absorbing angular and axial shock forces of a rotating drill bit. The tool has an elongated body with pipe joint ends and includes a tubular mandrel rotationally and slideably mounted within a tubular barrel. A groove (preferably helical) and roller connection guides the mandrel from the barrel during drilling. Resilient shock absorbing members between metal guide rings are carried between stop elements on the mandrel and barrel. Shock forces are absorbed initially by the rotating/telescoping movements of the mandrel within the barrel. Excess shock forces are absorbed in the members acted on by the stop elements on further inward/outward movements of the mandrel rotating in the barrel. Unique cross-over rings (graphite-filled Teflon.RTM.) cushion the resilient members from impacts of the metal guide rings.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1982Date of Patent: April 17, 1984Assignee: Dailey, Inc.Inventor: Chuan C. Patent number: 4393931Abstract: The disclosure relates to an improved apparatus for effecting the cementing of a liner at the bottom of a well bore. The liner sleeve assembly is inserted into the well bore on a hanger which is detachably connected to a running tool, which, in turn is connected to the work string by a torque transmitting expansion joint. The running tool may be fluid pressure actuated to set the hanger. In the event of failure of the fluid pressure setting operation, the hanger may be mechanically set by rotation of the work string transmitted to the running tool by the torque transmitting expansion joint.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1981Date of Patent: July 19, 1983Assignee: Baker International CorporationInventors: John F. Patent number: 4331207Abstract: This device, positioned above the drill bit, comprises a body provided with an axial bore communicating with the drill string and distribution means, controlling the direction of flow of the flushing fluid, slidably mounted in said bore and having two positions. This distribution means can be shifted from a first to a second position and vice-versa by a succession of fluid supply periods separated by periods of interruption of the fluid supply.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1979Date of Patent: May 25, 1982Assignee: Institut Francais du PetroleInventor: Yvon Castel

Patent number: 4300636Abstract: A drill string in a well bore has a mandrel extending longitudinally thereof adjacent the lower end of the drill string with a drill bit connected to the mandrel. Longitudinally extending helical groove means are provided in the mandrel and roller means are supported on the drill string and engaged with the helical groove means. Spring means is supported by the drill string and abuts the mandrel to tend to urge the mandrel longitudinally out of the drill string whereby the bit is urged into substantially continuous contact with the well bore bottom as the drill string is rotated during drilling operations. Valve means are provided for selectively circulating fluids from the drill string to the well bore above the drill bit, and when desired jar means may be incorporated in the drill string to impart an up or down jar thereto should the drill string become stuck or tend to become stuck during drilling operations.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1980Date of Patent: November 17, 1981Assignee: Dailey Oil Tools, Inc.Inventor: James D.
