With Clutch Means Acting Between Shaft And Guide Patents (Class 175/83)
  • Patent number: 11732557
Abstract: A plunger lift system includes a bumper assembly to reduce the impact of the plunger at the bottom of the well and in some circumstances to reconfigure the plunger for the plunger's next ascent. The bumper assembly has a spring, a mandrel, an impact head, and a flow cage. The impact head and mandrel are constructed from a single piece of material thereby removing a joint between the impact head and mandrel. The unitary impact head/mandrel is connected to the flow cage using a first cooperating shoulder at the lower end of the unitary impact head/mandrel and a second cooperating shoulder within the flow cage. The first cooperating shoulder and the second cooperating shoulder are held in place with respect to each other by a force provided by the spring.

  • Patent number: 10669780
Abstract: The invention belongs to the technical field of drills for petroleum, coal mines and exploration, and provides a whipstocking drill for an ultra-short-radius well. The whipstocking drill comprises several flexible drill rods which are sequentially connected end to end, wherein the flexible drill rod at an end portion is connected with a length compensation device, and the flexible drill rods are externally sleeved with several guide sleeves which are movably connected. The invention solves the technical problems of a long whipstocking length and an excessively large turning radius of curvature during whipstocking.

  • Patent number: 8881844
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system for steering the direction of a borehole advanced by cutting action of a rotary drill bit by periodically varying action of a drill bit while continuously rotating a drill string to which the drill bit is operationally attached. The steering system can include a bit perturbation device cooperating with a bent housing subsection and operationally connected to the drill string and to the drill bit. Drill bit action can be varied by periodically varying the rotation speed and/or rate of penetration of the drill bit. Periodic drill bit action results in preferential cutting of material from a predetermined arc of the borehole wall which, in turn, results in borehole deviation. Action of the drill bit can be varied independently of the rotation rate of the drill string.

  • Patent number: 7216726
Abstract: A downhole tool comprises a joint, and a resilient member 65 which extends through the joint and provides a restoring force which tends to strengthen the joint. The joint may comprise a flex coupling 61 which allows limited articulation of the joint. First and second drill string sections 63, 64 may be interconnected by the joint, the resilient member 65 being fixed to interior surfaces of the first and second drill string sections 63, 64. A downhole tool may also comprise primary and secondary sleeves 46 that are supported relative to the mandrel 10 of the drill string. Rotational drive may be transferred from one of the sleeves to the other.

  • Patent number: 6588542
Abstract: A borehole tool including a tool body having and an anchoring mechanism, the anchoring mechanism having a drive mechanism including a motor, drive shaft, and clutch; an anchor arm moveable between first and second positions relative to the tool body; a push rod connecting the anchor arm to the drive mechanism; and a spring acting to bias the arm into a first position relative to the tool body. The push rod extends through the clutch mechanism and is engaged by the spring to bias the arm into the first position, and is also driven by the drive mechanism through the clutch to move the arm between the first and second position. The push rod may be connected to the anchor arm by a link. Measurement devices may be used to determine the position of the anchor arm or the tool body.

  • Patent number: 6401842
Abstract: The apparatus includes an annular cam rotatably located in a housing with a drill shaft extending through the cam and housing. The shaft can be rotated for drilling purposes and be moved longitudinally in the housing for shifting purposes. The cam has grooves in its outer surface for receiving a cam follower carried by the shaft which rotates the cam as the shaft is moved longitudinally for shifting purposes. The shaft may be moved longitudinally in one direction to a position to engage members of a clutch such that when the shaft rotates, it rotates the housing. The shaft is movable in an opposite direction to disengage the clutch members and then is movable to locate the cam follower in the groove at different positions to allow the operator to control the longitudinal position of the shaft for turning purposes or for drilling straight.

  • Patent number: 4305462
Abstract: A deflection wedge is positioned in a long horizontal drill hole by securing it with a shear pin to an extension on a drill string. The extension is turned independently of the drill string to enable a droparm mechanism to actuate a trigger which stops rotation at a predetermined orientation. Rotation is effected by means of a rifle bar mechanism. The rifle bar presses against the bottom of the hole to cause rotation and the trigger declutches the rifle nut when the droparm drops.
