  • Patent number: 10690534
Abstract: A weighing conveyor system, a checkweigher, and a method for weighing conveyed objects with a checkweigher comprising LIM-driven rollers positioned in a conveying line and position sensors for determining the objects' weights from the motion of the objects across the rollers. The LIM drives the rollers with a constant torque. The acceleration of an object driven by the rollers is inversely proportional to the object's weight. So an object's weight can be determined by the effect of the rollers on its motion.

Abstract: A system and method for calculating the weight of a load over a conveyor belt system. The method comprises placing a material that has a weight onto a conveyor belt, moving the conveyor belt at a desired speed, and calibrating a weight meter to solve for the coefficients of a polynomial equation. The method then comprises operating the motor drive to send a desired power supply signal to the motor. The motor drive sends command signals to the motor to move the conveyor belt at the desired speed. The weight meter inputs the power supply and speed signal data as well as the coefficients calculated in the calibration into a polynomial regression formula to calculate for the mass of a load on the conveyor belt in which mass is a function of the power and speed. The weight meter outputs the mass calculation to the other system components.

  • Patent number: 8188384
Abstract: One problem with weighing conveyors is that the tension of the conveyor belt, needed to allow the belt to be driven, inadvertently reduces the degree of sagging of the belt caused by the mass of the product on the belt, which affects weighing accuracy, as this pre-tensioning of the belt inadvertently supports some of the weight of the product being transported, and this tension supported fraction of the weight cannot be sensed by the load cell supporting the middle section of the belt. In a preferred embodiment, a flexible transition area is formed in-between the outer edges of the belt and the middle, product transport area, wherein the transition area comprises openings that serve to weaken the belt locally, such that a pre-tensioning of the middle part of the conveyor belt is reduced; this allows the middle part of the conveyor belt to hang substantially slack even as the outer edges of the conveyor belt are driven.
