Abstract: The system and method combine a large population of varying density pieces into sets that meet a specified target weight range. This is accomplished by creating a sample size of a pre-weighed payload of varying density pieces (“pieces”) for an automated system to determine optimal combinations sets based on piece weight data. The system combines pieces into the sets within a fixed weight tolerance. Significant hurdles overcome with this approach include avoiding damage to the fragile pieces, accurate measuring very low weights. All of this is achieved at extremely high speed and precision.
Abstract: A batching system (200) for use in a food packaging system comprises a batching table (202) having a plurality of filling stations (206) positioned around an axis of a predefined delivery position. A weigher (204) is operable to provide food product in predefined batches at the delivery position; and a conveyor (230) is provided for transporting said batches provided from the weigher (204) to at least one of said plurality of filling stations.
