Coarse And Fine Sliders Patents (Class 177/247)
  • Patent number: 9352195
Abstract: In accordance with one embodiment, a bowling ball weighing apparatus comprises a weight scale and a bowling ball support assembly. The apparatus comprises a ball support assembly and a weight scale. The ball support assembly has a cradle which holds the bowling ball and the assembly has weight supports. Whenever the scale is read, one of these weight supports is supported by the scale and another is supported apart from the scale. In a first orientation of the bowling ball with a first hemisphere of the ball closer to the weight support supported by the scale, a first scale reading is determined. Then in a second orientation with the first hemisphere of the ball farther from the weight support supported by the scale, a second scale reading is determined. Comparison of the two scale readings allows determination of the weight imbalance of the ball's two hemispheres.

  • Patent number: 6646209
Abstract: A beam scale for measurement of body weight and height according to the present invention includes a frame and a weighing mechanism. The frame includes a base assembly, a pillar assembly, and a horn assembly. The weighing mechanism is housed within the frame and includes a beam, weights, and a lever assembly. The horn assembly may include a transparent holding bracket having a level indicator. The scale may include a height measurement assembly having a height rod, a sheath supported by the horn assembly and the pillar assembly, a measuring arm, and a transparent height-measuring window having a line indicator. The frame may include a quick assembly mechanism to secure the pillar assembly to the base assembly during final assembly, quiet wheels for transport, and/or handle bars to support the user. Much of the frame may be made of pigmented thermoplastic or thermoset materials to reduce manufacturing costs and scale weight.

  • Patent number: 4836315
Abstract: The balance beam of a scale is provided with a series of notches. A poise, preferably a metal ball, is movable along the balance beam to be set in one of the notches and retained there without clamping. A secondary counterpoise on the other side of the pivot of the scale beam from the primary poise is comprised of the slider of a vernier. The vernier scale on the slider uses slits instead of the usual lines as graduations so the vernier body serves as a mask about the slits. There are stationary graduations on the beam. The slider has a window through which the numbers indicative of the unit weight graduations on the beam are read. Tenths of units and even hundredths of units can be read using the vernier scale. The slit on the vernier scale that is filled in the background by a graduation on the beam is the pertinent unit value to be read.

  • Patent number: 4744428
Abstract: A scale small enough and light enough to be carried in a person's pocket by virtue of the fact that most of its components are formed of lightweight molded plastic material. The fulcrum for the beam of the scale is provided by a pair of pointed, metal fulcrum posts adapted to cooperate with a pair of metal bearing inserts in the beam. A sliding weight which is movable along the beam has a metal insert to increase its weight and the metal insert is positioned in the plane of the fulcrum when the sliding weight is in its zero position.

  • Patent number: 4453610
Abstract: A scale having a base provided with spaced first and second upright posts, a beam having an intermediate portion pivotally mounted by the first post, a pan dependingly pivotally mounted by the beam first end portion remote from the posts, the beam having a first series of serrations between the first post and the pan and first graduated indicia in registry with the first serrations, a second series of serrations and second indicia in registry with the second serrations on the opposite side of the first post from the first serrations, a third series of serrations and third indicia on the opposite side of the second serrations from the first post, and comparator scale indicia on the beam second end portion that are in the same plane as the resting point locator indicium on the second post and closely adjacent thereto and a poise for each series of indicia. Each of the second series of graduations is equal to one unit of weight, each of the first series equal to 0.

  • Patent number: 4139068
Abstract: Method and apparatus for conversion of an uneven arm beam balance from metric weight measurement to English weight measurement, and the reverse conversion are described. An illustrative example is a balance rated to measure in kilograms and having a main beam scale graduated in uniform increments of metric weight with associated notched poises, a main weight being discretely positionable in respective notches. A secondary beam scale in parallel relationship with the main beam reads from zero to a value equal to one such metric weight increment, along which a secondary (slider) weight is slidable for making the fine-tuning weight measurements between respective graduations of the main scale. For conversion, there is also provided on the main beam a main English scale graduated in uniform increments of English weight with associated notched poise arranged so that a shift in the position of the main weight by a distance equivalent to 400N Grams weighs an increase of N pounds Avoirdupois.

  • Patent number: 4083418
Abstract: A beam weighing scale is provided wherein the index bars of the beam are rotatable so that different types of weight units can be displayed such as ounces and pounds, on the one hand, or grams and kilograms, on the other, or different values of the same weight units, for example, 0.1 pound and 0.25 pound. The sensitivity can also be altered by varying the center of gravity of the index bar and poise assembly.

  • Patent number: 4022289
Abstract: A balance beam having a short arm carrying a weighing pan and a long arm whose weight counteracts the torque exerted by the pan on the beam has a longitudinal edge extending over both arms and notched at uniform intervals. A rider weight is movable along the beam for alternative engagement with the notches in the two arms, the spacing of the notches being greater than in an otherwise equivalent balance having notches in the long arm only, and manufacturing tolerances in the making of the notches thus have a smaller effect on the precision of the balance.
