Combinatorial Scales Patents (Class 177/25.18)
  • Patent number: 6566613
Abstract: A control system for a multihead weigher for a combinatorial weighing system comprises a plurality of weighing modules each having a weighing bucket for receiving and weighing articles to be weighed, and a weighing module controller (e.g., a state machine) for controlling article weighing, discharge and refill operations of its associated weighing bucket. A central control unit (e.g., a PC) connected to the weighing module controllers over a low speed serial network issues at least one macro-command, such as “discharge and refill” to the weighing module controllers reducing the number of commands issued from central control unit to the weighing module controller which would otherwise occur without the macro-command. The weighing module controllers, in response to the at least one macro-command, perform the steps needed to effect the article weighing, discharge and refill operations. The control system has Internet connection capabilities.

  • Patent number: 6408223
Abstract: For a weight controlled building up of batches of foodstuff pieces, the pieces are supplied serially with mutual spacing and are weighed-in on a dynamic weigher using a “single weighing algorithm”. Quite similar weighers are known operating for “summation or flow weighing”, which does not require the supplied pieces to be supplied one by one while making use of a special algorithm. With the invention these technics are combined with the aim of handling an unorderly supply flow, in which there are both separated and non-separated pieces, in that by means of a detector it is determined whether the pieces are sufficiently separated for being “single weighed” for batching purposes, while the pieces will otherwise be flow weighed e.g. for the formation of large batches.

  • Patent number: 6388209
Abstract: The invention solves the problem of sufficiently accurately portioning by weight a sequential stream of objects with known individual weights, without having to return a considerable part of rejected excess objects to be processed again. This is achieved by accumulating excessive objects into one or more holding areas where they will be used as the basis for subsequent portions, instead of being rejected and reprocessed. This method makes it possible to use relatively simple and inexpensive equipment for sufficiently accurate portioning by weight in the fish and food processing industries, which requires highly complex and expensive equipment using existing technologies.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a combination weighing apparatus for selecting a combination of some of weighing hoppers (6i) accommodating therein articles that have been supplied thereto, which combination results in a combination calculated value (Wc) of measured weights of the articles (M) contained in some of the weighing hoppers (6i) forming the combination, falling within a predetermined combination tolerance, and for subsequently discharging the articles (M) in the selected weighing hoppers (6i). In accordance with a condition of a flow of the articles (M) on a falling route downstream of the combination weighing apparatus (1), discharge timing for discharging the articles (M) from the hoppers (6i) is automatically changed among the hoppers (6i). It is thereby possible to promptly detect abnormality in the flow of the articles and to maintain the high operativity and productivity (yield) of the combination weighing apparatus (1).

Abstract: A combinatorial weighing apparatus that combines articles after aligning same. The articles are input to the apparatus via hoppers, which can be selectively discharged to an alignment tray based upon the weight of the articles within the hoppers. A predetermined weight, or at least a weight within a margin of error of the predetermined weight, is discharged through a chute to an alignment tray. The chute narrows from an inlet position to an outlet position, and aligns the articles as they pass therethrough. Once in the alignment tray, the tray is shaken in an unsymmetrical manner so as to further align the articles. Once the alignment is complete, a gate beneath the tray opens and the aligned articles drop into a receptacle. The present invention is particularly useful in aligning elongate articles, such as bread sticks, and other food stuffs.
