Patent number: 10981682Abstract: Systems and methods for manufacturing and inserting a pre-determined number of material-filled pouches into containers are disclosed. A system includes a pouch providing system comprising a plurality of lanes, wherein each one of the plurality of lanes includes a pouch making machine and a hold-back structure. The system also includes a conveyor system structured and arranged to move a plurality of containers into alignment with the plurality of lanes. The system further includes a controller structured and arranged to control the hold-back structure in each one of the plurality of lanes such that the pre-determined pouches are inserted into the plurality of containers when the plurality of containers are aligned with the plurality of lanes.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2019Date of Patent: April 20, 2021Assignee: Altria Client Services LLCInventors: James D. Patent number: 10636225Abstract: A method for operating a machine adapted to transport a load during a work cycle is disclosed. The method includes determining a first stationary state of the machine, and causing sensors to start transmission of first signals. The first stationary state corresponds to a first segment of the work cycle, and the first signals indicate a weight of the load during the first segment. Further, the method includes determining a moving state of the machine corresponding to a second segment of the work cycle, and causing the sensors to terminate transmission of the first signals. Furthermore, the method includes determining a second stationary state of the machine, and causing the sensors to start transmission of second signals. The second stationary state corresponds to a third segment of the work cycle, and the second signals indicate a weight of the load during the third segment.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2018Date of Patent: April 28, 2020Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: James C. Patent number: 6502013Abstract: An enhanced filling/weighing system utilizes first and second weighing stages. The first stage includes a first top container having an associated weighing device, e.g., a load cell. The second stage includes a second bottom container having an associated weighing device, e.g., a load cell. A high speed bulk feed subsystem supplies product to the top cup. A low speed dribble feed subsystem supplies product to the lower cup. In operation, the bulk feed subsystem feeds product to the top cut at a high speed. The top cup fills to its first setpoint (plus overfill, e.g., attributable to feed momentum) once per cycle. When the system controller recognizes that the top cup weight has reached the first setpoint, it pauses th bulk feed, discharges the top cup into the bottom cup, starts the dribble feed into the bottom cup, and starts the next cycle of bulk feed into the top cup. Thus, the top cup fills at high speed during cycle N+1 concurrently with the bottom cup filling at low speed during cycle N.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2000Date of Patent: December 31, 2002Inventor: Al Pinhas Sosnik

Patent number: 5340949Abstract: A plurality of pool hoppers (5) for storing a predetermined quantity of an object (W) of metering are each formed in the shape of a hollow, bottomless cylinder and are arranged side by side. A plurality of metering hoppers (7) for weighing a predetermined quantity of the object (W) supplied from the pool hoppers (5) are each formed in the shape of a hollow, bottomless cylinder and are arranged under the pool hoppers (5). A collecting device (13, 12a) for collectively storing and then discharging the object (W) supplied from the metering hoppers (7) is provided under the metering hoppers (7). A plurality of indentations (205) are arranged on the inner periphery of a barrel-type container body (201) of the metering hopper. The object (W) of metering is in point contact with the indentations (205), so that all of the object of metering is discharged from the container body.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1992Date of Patent: August 23, 1994Assignee: Anritsu CorporationInventors: Masahiro Fujimura, Mitsuru Yoshida

Patent number: 4487277Abstract: A container distributing and charging apparatus has a plurality of weighing machines for computing weights of articles supplied to the weighing machines, selecting a combination of articles the total weight of which is equal to or closest to a target weight, and discharging the selected articles. One of containers which contain articles to be weighed and are ready for being supplied onto the weighing machines serves as a dummy container for taking up a dimensional difference between the containers and the weighing machines.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1982Date of Patent: December 11, 1984Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Ishida Koki SeisakushoInventors: Souji Morita, Yoshiharu Mikami
