Patent number: 6158857Abstract: An ink-jet printer for ink-jet printing onto a print media. The printer has an ink-jet cartridge for ejecting ink onto a print medium during printing operations. A rotating drum platen holds a print medium on an outer surface thereof, the drum platen having an interior volume defined therein and an end wall extending transversely to the outer surface. A carriage holds the cartridge in a closely arranged position relative to the external surface of the drum. A drum drive apparatus rotates the drum to move the print medium in relation to the printhead of the cartridge. The printer further has a printer controller mounted in a fixed position relative to a printer chassis, and an electronic circuit disposed in the interior volume of the drum platen. A data communication link passes data between the printer controller and the electronic circuit.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1999Date of Patent: December 12, 2000Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventor: Steven B. Patent number: 5440402Abstract: According to a method and apparatus for recognizing a paster portion of a web, each pixel data of a printed matter serving as a reference is stored as reference image data. Each pixel data of a printed matter serving as a test target printed on the web is stored as test image data. The reference image data is compared with the test image data in units of pixels to detect defective pixels. The paster portion of the web is recognized on the basis of a generation pattern of the defective pixels.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1992Date of Patent: August 8, 1995Assignee: Komori CorporationInventors: Tetsuya Okuda, Shinichi Kojima

Patent number: 4354055Abstract: The invention relates to apparatus for use in printing devices for the deposit of sheet-type recording media transported across a platen into a deposit tray area disposed above the platen. Deposit of the sheets is carried out by means of transport or delivery rollers which seize each sheet after it has passed through a printing area adjacent the platen and lift the sheet over a lower edge of the deposit tray for stacking. A pivotally mounted common carrier bracket is provided to carry a support wall which forms the lower edge surface of the deposit tray and the transport roller means. The support wall has a stripper surface formed along one end thereof containing bias means for resiliently pressing the recording medium into driving engagement against the transport rollers. The other end of the support wall is formed with intake guide surfaces for leading sheets into engagement with the intake side of the platen.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1981Date of Patent: October 12, 1982Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Peter Koller, Ulrich Mayr

Patent number: 4062436Abstract: A lightweight, extremely compact printer apparatus has a constant speed drive which imparts reversible, translatory motion to a print head; and as the print head is advanced with respect to a platen imparts a direct mechanical drive to a paper advancing roller in order to advance paper from a feed roll line by line between printing operations. In turn, advancement of the paper or other recording medium from the paper roll drives a print ribbon supply holder to advance a print ribbon across the platen in front of the paper. The power requirements and size of the apparatus are substantially reduced to the extent that the apparatus is of a size corresponding to hand held calculator printers, since the movement of each element is utilized to drive another element successively from the print head carrier, paper advancement roller, paper roll to the print ribbon in close correlation to one another during each print cycle.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1976Date of Patent: December 13, 1977Assignee: LRC, Inc.Inventors: Nicholas Kondur, Jr., Robert H. Patent number: 3975590Abstract: A facsimile transceiver comprising a document/copy receiving drum, a motor for rotation of the drum about the drum axis and a read/write head mounted for linear movement in a direction parallel with the drum axis. When the transceiver is operating in the receive mode, the copy medium having adhesive along at least one edge circumscribes the drum in a closed loop so as to eliminate the necessity for transmitter-receiver angular synchronizing signals which would otherwise be required for locating the copy margin adjacent the edge of the copy paper. After completion of a transmission, the copy medium is severed along a line so as to provide an appropriate margin for the copied information content. The copy medium may comprise a magazine having a plurality of sheets of a copy medium which form individual closed loops where one edge of each sheet overlaps with and is attached to the opposite edge of the sheet.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1974Date of Patent: August 17, 1976Assignee: Exxon Research and Engineering CompanyInventor: Richard L.
