Abstract: A portable, multi-platform friction drive system with a retractable motor drive assembly (12), containing all needed components of an electric friction drive system in a portable handheld case (10), including motor (18), batteries (34), and all associated electronics (36), as well as a mounting system (30) that enables use on popular bike share bicycles (20), personal bicycles, and kick scooters. Its mounting system (30) enables the friction drive system to be easily installed in seconds on many varieties of bicycles or kick scooters, and to be removed just as easily when no longer needed. And by means of its retractable motor assembly (12), the present invention enables the friction drive system to be as compact, clean, and safe as possible so as to be easily carried and stored when not in use.
Abstract: An electrical assist device is provided for a bicycle. The device includes an electric machine, a drive pinion, an attachment device, a source of electrical energy, and a controller. The attachment device fixes the electric machine to the bicycle near a tire of a wheel of the bicycle. The source of electrical energy powers the electric machine. The controller controls the electric machine. The electric machine includes a rotor, which drives the drive pinion. The drive pinion includes teeth structured to mesh tangentially with complementary teeth fastened to the tire.

Abstract: An auxiliary, removable, modular power drive unit has a pivot point that can be attached to any bicycle or vehicle by way of a quick release clamp system. The power for the drive system may be derived from an internal combustion engine or electric motor. The power developed by the engine or motor is delivered to the rear wheel of a bicycle by a friction drive wheel that presses directly onto the tire of the bicycle. The power unit may utilize a clamp joined to an integrated fuel cell by a pivot point, causing the fuel cell to act as a swing arm and a motor mount. This enables the fuel cell to move up and down to compensate for different tire sizes, variations in road conditions, or movement of a suspension system of the bicycle due to imperfections in terrain.
