  • Patent number: 8602148
Abstract: A portable removable apparatus for powering a bicycle driven by a chain is disclosed. The apparatus includes a portable and removable drive unit for propelling the bicycle. The drive unit includes an electric motor and a shaft rotatable by the motor, with a sprocket coaxially affixed to the shaft and adapted to engage to a portion of the chain. The apparatus also includes a bracket adapted to be fixed to a frame of the bicycle and to be in bearing contact with the shaft for supporting the shaft. The apparatus further includes at least one additional support for supporting the drive unit on the bicycle frame so that lateral torque on the drive unit when engaged with the chain and operating is substantially eliminated. Another embodiment is disclosed in which the drive unit includes a flexible belt looped around a drive pulley connected to the motor and an idler pulley.

Abstract: An electric motor assisted bicycle is provided having a fork, a frame, a front wheel, a rear wheel, and pedals drivingly coupled to at least one of the front and rear wheels to enable human powered motion of the bicycle. The bicycle further includes a plurality of bearings uniformly spaced around a perimeter of a rim of one of the front and rear wheels and an electric motor drive system coupled to the bicycle to selectively provide electric motor assisted motion thereof. The electric motor drive system includes an electric motor coupled to the bicycle and a drive cog drivingly coupled to the electric motor, the drive cog positioned to sequentially engage the plurality bearings when driven by the electric motor to power the bicycle in a motor assisted manner. Other bicycle systems and components and related methods are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8573346
Abstract: An auxiliary, removable, modular power drive unit has a pivot point that can be attached to any bicycle or vehicle by way of a quick release clamp system. The power for the drive system may be derived from an internal combustion engine or electric motor. The power developed by the engine or motor is delivered to the rear wheel of a bicycle by a friction drive wheel that presses directly onto the tire of the bicycle. The power unit may utilize a clamp joined to an integrated fuel cell by a pivot point, causing the fuel cell to act as a swing arm and a motor mount. This enables the fuel cell to move up and down to compensate for different tire sizes, variations in road conditions, or movement of a suspension system of the bicycle due to imperfections in terrain.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an inline skate, and more particularly, to an inline skate including a wheel-driving unit which generates power when a foot pushes on the ground to rotate the wheels, and when the boot is lifted, the frame is spaced apart from the ground to further increase the time required for stepping forward on the ground or being pushed from the ground, thereby obtaining propulsive force such that the inline skate quickly advances. To this end, the inline skate including the wheel-driving unit according to the present invention includes a boot, as well as a frame, on which a plurality of wheels are installed, on the bottom surface of the boot. One side end of the bottom surface of the boot is hingedly coupled to the upper end of the frame. One end of a link is hingedly coupled to the other side of the bottom surface of the boot. A driving gear is disposed on one end of the frame.

  • Publication number: 20110308872
Abstract: A clutch mechanism for a motorized bicycle includes: a motor-assisted power source; a pedaling-assisted power source; a clutch that holds the motor-assisted power source away from the wheel so as not to encumber the pedaling-assisted power source. The clutch engages the wheel with a roller gear for either motor-assisted or independent power. A second concave V-shaped roller drive slips over the first concave V-shaped roller to increase the speed of the vehicle.
