  • Patent number: 9004215
Abstract: A coupling arrangement having a rotational axis, about which the coupling arrangement can rotate, having: a first coupling element with an axially-extending flat-side spur toothing system having radially extending first teeth, a second coupling element with an axially-extending flat-side corresponding toothing system which engages axially into the spur toothing system and has radially-extending second teeth, and at least one means for bracing the first coupling element axially with the second coupling element, which coupling elements are fixedly connected fixedly to one another to rotate together about the rotational axis via the toothing systems to transmit torque. The teeth of at least one of the toothing systems have tooth tip lines that are curved convexly in the axial direction away from a tooth root.

  • Patent number: 8857554
Abstract: A transaxle assembly is provided which is configured to be mounted to a frame of a vehicle. The transaxle assembly includes a transmission that has two separately attached pivotable knuckle assemblies. Each pivotable knuckle assembly can be independently steered and includes an axle driven by the transmission. Each axle drives a wheel of the vehicle. In another configuration, the two pivotable knuckle assemblies are joined by an integrally formed crossmember.

  • Patent number: 8051940
Abstract: A steerable vehicle knuckle has an inboard portion defining upper and lower arms, with a kingpin between them, and has an outboard portion defining a spindle that cooperates with a fluid driven motor. The arms define a cavity where an axle end portion is pivotally received. Fluid supply ports, which supply fluid to energize the motor, are located on an upper surface of the knuckle's inboard portion. Fluid drain lines extend within the knuckle from the motor to the cavity and are utilized to drain fluid from the motor. The supply ports and drain lines are each connected to separate hoses formed in a small arc that follows closely the circular curvature of the kingpin. This arrangement of port, lines, and hoses is less expensive to produce, easier to package, more robust, allows for faster steering reaction, and is easier to assemble than conventional arrangements.

  • Patent number: 7712566
Abstract: A bicycle transmission assembly that is mountable to a bottom bracket shell of a bicycle frame. The bicycle transmission assembly includes an input crank assembly, an output chainring, a planetary gear mechanism, a control system and a mounting system. The input crank assembly is mounted to a rotatable crank axle mounted to the bottom bracket shell. The planetary gear mechanism is mounted to the bottom bracket shell and provides a plurality of transmission paths. The planetary gear mechanism includes a sun gear, a ring gear and a locking element operatively connecting the sun gear and the ring gear. The control system is operatively connected to the planetary gear mechanism for selecting one of the transmission paths.

  • Patent number: 7607507
Abstract: A bottom bracket assembly for a bicycle is provided. The bottom bracket assembly may comprise a left bearing, bottom bracket shell and a right bearing. The bottom bracket shell may be threadless and have beveled surfaces for mounting the left and right bearings onto the bottom bracket assembly. A spindle is inserted through the bottom bracket shell. Thereafter, the left and right bearings are preloaded to align the central axis of the spindle to the crankarm rotating axis such that the spindle or left and right crankarms do not wobble and yet do not bind when rotated.

  • Patent number: 5941333
Abstract: A bicycle includes a pedal-activated spindle, a sprocket-mounting sleeve and a front sprocket sleeved fixedly on the sleeve. A planetary gear train interconnects the spindle and the sleeve, thereby rotating the sleeve at a speed larger than that of the spindle. When a pedaling torque applied to the bicycle is above a predetermined torque, a ring gear of the train rotates in a casing. The ring gear is limited to rotate between a non-pushing position and a greatest-displacement position, and is biased by a spring to the non-pushing position. When the ring gear rotates from the non-pushing position by a predetermined angle, a sensing unit activates a motor unit so as to drive an auxiliary electrical transmission, thereby transferring a torque from the auxiliary electrical transmission to the sleeve. A first one-way clutch interconnects the train and the sleeve so that the output of the train can be transferred to the sleeve while preventing the rotation of the sleeve from being transferred to the train.

  • Patent number: 4591018
Abstract: A tractor comprising driven front and rear wheels, and a front and rear lifting device. The front wheels are in sets of two wheels mounted on king pins so as to be steerable through an angle of one hundred, twenty-five degrees or more. A divided track rod is connected to the king pins for steering purposes. The track rod has two parts, each centrally pivotally connected to a centrally pivoted lever and outwardly pivoted by a lever to a corresponding king pin. The latter levers extend forward and the track rods are pivoted to the central lever at a location to the rear of a plane containing the king pins. Shafts connected to the tractor's engine for turning the forward wheels extend through the king pins. The king pins are inclined upwardly to the rear and can turn each front set of wheels transverse to the straight-ahead direction of travel sufficiently to permit removal of the then foremost wheel.

  • Patent number: 4371049
Abstract: A steering axle comprises a steering shaft connected to a wheelhub either directly or through a planetary gear set, and to a shaft joint. The shaft joint includes an external component which is connected to a driven shaft. A boot is affixed to the steering shaft and the external component and collectively with the external component encloses the shaft joint. There is a housing about the shaft joint and affixed to the shafts such that when the shafts are located transversely relative to each other the boot and joint can be laterally removed. A plug in the wheelhub axially locates the steering shaft, and permits withdrawal of the steering shaft.
