Patent number: 11872882Abstract: An apparatus and methods are provided for a transmission for a rear mid-engine vehicle. The transmission comprises a power transfer portion for receiving torque from the engine and a gearbox for providing conversions of rotational speed and torque. First and second side output portions conduct torque from the gearbox to the rear wheels. A forward output portion conducts torque to front wheels of a four-wheel drive vehicle. An air clutch comprising each output portion controls the degree of torque transferred to each wheel. The output portions are each coupled to a rear wheel by a rear axle, bevel gears, and rear portal gears. The rear axles are aligned with, and positioned above, the trailing arms to protect the rear axles from damage due to rocks and debris. The length and alignment of the rear axles cause CV joints to articulate in the same direction as the trailing arms.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 2023Date of Patent: January 16, 2024Inventor: Robby Gordon

Patent number: 7837000Abstract: An all terrain vehicle includes a caliper bracket that moves with the movement of a rear axle by the rotation of an eccentric hub. The eccentric hub rotatably supports the rear axle in a position eccentric to the radial center of an axle supporting section. The caliper bracket includes a range specifying section or, specifically, a first engaging portion, which engages with the rear arm, for specifying the rotating range of the eccentric hub according to the position of engagement with the rear arm. The rear arm includes a second engaging portion that engages with the first engaging portion.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2007Date of Patent: November 23, 2010Assignee: Yamaha Hatsudoki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Tatsuya Matsuura, Tomoyuki Hayashi

Patent number: 7533751Abstract: In a motorcycle or a three-wheeled vehicle which tiltably supports a proximal end portion of a swing arm which pivotally supports a wheel on a vehicle body frame by way of a pivot shaft, the swing arm pivot structure is inexpensive and can be easily assembled without particularly using relatively expensive bearings such as taper bearings. At the same time, the preload adjustment is no longer necessary thus facilitating the assembling operation and the maintenance operation. A proximal portion of the pivot shaft is connected to the swing arm in a state wherein the proximal portion is non-rotatable relative to the swing arm. At the same time, a distal portion of the pivot shaft is fitted in and held by the vehicle body frame in a state wherein the distal portion is rotatable relative to the vehicle body frame.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2005Date of Patent: May 19, 2009Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Etsumi Handa, Katsumasa Mukai, Hisayoshi Kageyama

Patent number: 6702059Abstract: A transmission device for a self-propelled wheeled machine, this device, driven by a belt from a drive shaft, includes a housing mounted floating relative to the chassis of the machine containing a mechanism for reducing and clutching between an input shaft and at least one output shaft. This device is characterized in that the housing is constituted by half casings of which one includes a molded-on tongue loaded by a spring so as to exert on the housing a couple for swinging the housing about the output shaft, this tongue including, adjacent its end, an abutment immobilizing a sheath of a control cable acting on a clutch control lever of the device.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2001Date of Patent: March 9, 2004Assignee: France Reducteurs S.A.Inventor: Robert Blanchard

Patent number: 6536545Abstract: A utility vehicle is provided with a middle axle that is mounted at the end of a bogey beam for flotational movement relative to the frame of the vehicle. The middle axle is restrained longitudinally by support links that are pivotally connected at a location forward of the rear drive axle. The middle axle is formed by a pair of stub axles interconnected by a support beam that is pivotally connected to the rearward end of the bogey beam. Vertical movement of the middle axle support wheels results in a corresponding vertical movement of the rearward end of the bogey beam and a rotation of the support beam about its pivotal connection on the bogey beam. The configuration of the support links provides sufficient slack in the drive mechanism to the middle axle during flotational movement thereof so as to allow a slight twisting of the drive mechanism during oscillation of the middle axle.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2001Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignee: New Holland North America, Inc.Inventor: Joseph C. Patent number: 6286619Abstract: An all terrain vehicle includes an engine and a final drive assembly. The engine includes an output shaft that supports a drive sprocket or pulley. The final drive assembly comprises an input shaft that supports a driven sprocket or pulley and a brake disc. A flexible transmitter such as a belt or a chain connects the drive sprocket or pulley and the driven sprocket or pulley. The final drive assembly is formed separate of the engine and spaced apart from the engine when the two components are mounted to a frame of the vehicle. The driven sprocket or pulley is positioned on an upper portion of the final drive assembly while a lower portion of the final drive assembly is pivotally connected to the frame. The final drive assembly can be pivoted to adjust a tension level within the flexible transmitter. The final drive assembly can be selectively secured in a pivotal position by a support rod and/or a set of slotted brackets.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2000Date of Patent: September 11, 2001Assignee: Yamaha Hatsudoki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Masayuki Uchiyama, Masamitsu Fukushima

Patent number: 5337849Abstract: A mechanism for mounting an axle to a vehicle, and including a power output shaft drivingly coupled with a generally cylindrical coupler which is drivingly coupled with a first sleeve. A first axle is coupled for rotation with the first sleeve, and a first ground engaging wheel is coupled for rotation with the first axle and is thereby operatively driven by the output shaft. A first axle housing rotatably supporting the first axle is generally rigidly and releasably fixed to the frame of the vehicle. A first sprocket is fixed for rotation with the first sleeve, and a chain operatively extends between the first sprocket and a second sprocket which is fixed for rotation with a second sleeve. The second sleeve is operatively coupled with a second axle rotatably supported by a second axle housing, and therefore a second ground engaging wheel is driven with the first ground engaging wheel.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1992Date of Patent: August 16, 1994Assignee: Deere & CompanyInventors: Jimmy N.
