Patent number: 8020563Abstract: An ultra thin ear plug enables sound protection to be conveniently carried inside a wallet. The ear plug is made of a slow-recovery thin foam strip. The user rolls the strip into a cylinder, compresses the cylinder and inserts the compressed foam cylinder into the ear canal. The foam strip can incorporate a pressure sensitive adhesive on one surface so that the ear plug retains the cylindrical shape after being rolled up. Tapered ends can assist sealing by minimizing the existence of an air gap at the center of the cylinder and on the ear canal. A flexible envelope about 0.008 inch thick and of credit card dimensions can provide packaging for two or more ear plugs and can provide a large surface area for promotional advertising. Total thickness of the packaged ear plugs can be thinner than 0.050 inch or the thickness of a credit card.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2007Date of Patent: September 20, 2011Inventor: John Pfanstiehl

Patent number: 7172052Abstract: A headphone has a headband and two earpieces each connected to the headband so as to be pivotable about at least two pivot axes. The two pivot axes intersect one another at a point of intersection that is positioned on or near a central axis of the earpiece, respectively. Arms connect the earpieces to the headband, wherein the arms define a first one of the two pivot axes, respectively. A second one of the two pivot axes is fixedly arranged on the headband, respectively. In this way, the earpieces are rotatable about the arms and the arms are rotatable relative to the headband about the second pivot axes.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2004Date of Patent: February 6, 2007Assignee: AKG Acoustics GmbHInventor: Hugo Lenhard-Backhaus

Patent number: 7146650Abstract: Ear covers and a strap for joining the ear covers. Each ear cover includes an inner cup over the ear, an outer cup over the inner cup. The cups are shaped to define an inner space between them in which an end region of the strap is guided to move lengthwise with respect to the ear cover. A channel on the outside of the inner cup receives a flange on the strap for guiding its longitudinal movement. The rims of the inner and the outer cups are connected and a protective covering cloth may be at the rims for contacting the user's head around the ear.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 2004Date of Patent: December 12, 2006Assignee: New York Accessory GroupInventor: Isaac Shalom

Patent number: 7107993Abstract: An earplug composed of an injected molded resilient polymeric material for insertion into an ear canal by a fingertip of a user, including an elongated member having a nose portion formed as a curved front end. An open cup shaped rearward extending flange located at the end of the elongated member opposite to the nose portion and with the open cup shaped rearward extending flange configured to receive the fingertip of the user. The elongated member including at least one flange element located intermediate the nose portion and the open cup shape flange. The nose portion and the flange element having a generally curved shape to extend into and conform to the wall of the ear canal.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2004Date of Patent: September 19, 2006Assignee: Moldex-Metric, Inc.Inventor: Mark Magidson

Patent number: 7036157Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method of producing a hood for a hearing protector by injection moulding of plastic material. The hood is injection moulded to a single contiguous piece employing at least two plastic materials possessing different properties in at least one respect. The plastic materials may be both homogeneous and in porous or foamed form. A hood for a hearing protector is produced from plastic by injection moulding. The hood includes at least two portions or layers which are united to one another. The portions or layers consist of plastic materials with different properties in at least one respect.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2000Date of Patent: May 2, 2006Assignee: Peltor ABInventors: Magnus Andersson, Jan Folkesson

Patent number: 6981569Abstract: A hearing protection device and method of natural sealing provides an ear clip designed with two elongated elements. The elements each have a flexible part or cushions at one end and are attached with a tension mechanism that applies pressure forcing the ends together. The flexible part or cushion ends contact the wearer, one behind the lower ear and the other at the auricle skin flap pressing the flap to cover the ear canal.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 2003Date of Patent: January 3, 2006Inventor: Paul J. Patent number: 6938622Abstract: An earplug has an open inserting end, an open inlet end, a cover, a hollow body, a soft sheath, a tube and a sound-processing unit. The sound passes through the open inlet end, is processed by the sound-processing unit and then passes into an ear canal. Alternatively, RF (Radio Frequency) signals pass through the open inlet end and are processed by the sound-processing unit, and then radio signals pass into the ear canal. The soft sheath has a through hole. The tube is mounted through the through hole in the soft sheath and allows the open inserting end to communicate with the ambient air. Furthermore, the soft sheath and the tube are replaceable to conform to sanitary standards.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2004Date of Patent: September 6, 2005Inventor: Fu-Sheng Huang

Patent number: 6938621Abstract: A disposable plug has a mask with an orifice aligned at the entry into the ear canal when the plug is inserted into the ear. A sealed envelope has a leading elastic tip that extends forward of the orifice into the ear canal and a trailing reservoir that extends rearward of the orifice. A super-cooled liquid salt substantially fills the envelope. The envelope is sized to contain a sufficient quantity of the liquid salt to deliver heat to the inner ear at a predetermined temperature for a predetermined time period. A convex disk in the reservoir can be manually popped to concave after the tip of the envelope has been inserted into the ear canal to shrink the reservoir and expand the tip into deeper extension into and compliance with the ear canal and to activate solidification of the liquid salt to generate heat into the ear canal.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2004Date of Patent: September 6, 2005Inventors: Sareva L.
