Suspended Platform Patents (Class 182/150)
  • Patent number: 4074790
Abstract: A self-propelled truck has a rotatable turret on which an articulated and nested assembly of frame members and a scaffold is mounted for transport. The turret and assembly can be operated to place the frame members in position to define a vertically extending portion outwardly of one side of the truck to extend, for example, downwardly of the side of a bridge on which the truck is located. The scaffold then extends horizontally from the lower end of the vertical portion and may be swung horizontally to extend either parallel to the side of the bridge or to extend inwardly under the bridge. The scaffold is also vertically movable and wheeled stabilizers on the truck can hold the same against tilting while permitting movement of the truck across the bridge with the assembly extended as described.

  • Patent number: 4074792
Abstract: A strong lightweight hanging scaffold for four or more workmen with heavy materials has a wide range of adjustability adapting it for a variety of uses on many types of one and two story buildings including buildings with gable ends. The scaffold features strong top and bottom truss arms or beams which are vertically adjustable on end vertical ladder-type frames. A sturdy walkway of box form has a non-slip metal walking surface and may be employed in both level and inclined positions while resting on the bottom truss arms. Top spiked engaging bars of the upper truss arms have swiveled connections therewith so as to be compatible with various roof contours. The lower truss arms have extension bars with feet adapted for stable engagement with building walls.

  • Patent number: 4068738
Abstract: This invention is staging or scaffolding for use within a tank for example a storage tank in chemical plant or in a marine oil tanker, and an assembly of staging comprises a number of platforms each coupled to at least three flexible chains adapted for connection at top and bottom to a side wall or the roof or floor of the tank with the chains extending vertically between the top and bottom fixing points and the platforms extending horizontally and spaced vertically from one another. The assembly can be collapsed and lowered through a hatch in the roof of the tank or can be built up within the tank and the connection at the top may be to a releaseable shackle which remains engaged so long as the chains are supporting substantial weight, but which automatically release when weight is removed so that removal of the staging after it is no longer required can be done quite safely without an operator standing on the staging.

  • Patent number: 4060358
Abstract: A scaffolding assembly is made up of independent units each of which is fitted with inside and outside shuttering panels. The assembly is particularly suitable for in situ casting of walls in reinforced concrete, in successive layers which may vary in their inclination to the vertical. Each unit includes a support frame which is attached to one surface of the wall in progress and is fitted with one shuttering panel and a first assembly of catwalks. At its upper end it has a cantilever which overhangs the top of the wall, from which is suspended a movable frame substantially parallel to the support frame. The position of the movable frame on the cantilever is adjustable, to vary its distance from the support frame. The movable frame is fitted with the other shuttering panel and with a second catwalk assembly. A lifting system on the support frame co-operates with attachments on the wall to raise the unit.

  • Patent number: 4044858
Abstract: A maintenance device for use underneath a deck has an elongated arm connectable to the deck and extending beneath the deck and movable about a vertical axis. A platform mounted on the arm is movable along the arm and may be further movable relative to the arm such as by being rotatable about a second vertical axis or movable vertically relative to the arm. A deck including such a maintenance device may have a plurality of connecting points spaced about the deck such that the arm, by being connected to different ones of said connecting points can reach the entire area beneath the deck.

  • Patent number: 4029173
Abstract: An erectable and transportable scaffold cage adapted to be engaged on and supported on a support beam comprises front and rear frame structures which are pivotally interconnected by means of parallel side braces which are connected between the frame structures. A reinforcing frame is pivotally connected to the lower ends of each of the front and rear frames and the front frame is pivotal outwardly from the rear structure to form a cage within the front and rear structures and the side braces having a floor formed by a scaffold plate which is supported on the reinforcing frame. The plate has upright bottom edges which fit flush against the insides of an angle member forming the sides of the front frame structure so that it facilitates the holding of the structure in an erected cage forming position. A flexible member such as a chain is connected between the upper ends of each side of the front structure to the upper ends of each side of the rear structure.

  • Patent number: 4022293
Abstract: A fold-away hook platform used as a scaffold for mounting to a structure such as the side of a railroad car. The platform having a pair of scaffold arms with upper end portions having hook portions extending therefrom for quickly mounting to a door, gate, or wooden cribbing. The lower end portion of the scaffold arms adapted for receiving the ends of a board for standing on while working on the platform. The platform is held rigidly in place by scaffold bracing pivotally attached to each scaffold arm.

  • Patent number: 4010823
Abstract: Methods and one apparatus are disclosed for inspecting or working on the internal wall surface of a large drum, as a five story high coke drum for use in a delayed coking unit for restoring petroleum fractions. The apparatus or assembly comprises a triangular spider hanging bracket hoisted up to and connected to one end of a crosshead secured across the top of an opening in the top of the drum, and an inspector's or workman's cage having a hoist hooked to one end of the triangular bracket for traversing the full height of one sector of the drum internal wall before the cage is lowered to a temporary deck, the crosshead rotated through a predetermined angle on the drum top, and the cage raised again for covering another sector of the internal wall surface. This assembly forms a fast, thorough, safe, economical, and efficient system for inspecting and/or working on the internal wall surface of a large drum.

  • Patent number: 3945462
Abstract: Hanger brackets for suspending working scaffold or platform floors from overhead supports. Paired legs adjustably and pivotally joined together in scissors arrangement have finger ends for engaging overhead beams or elements thereof as depending portions of the legs that extend beneath the center pivot are moved inwardly. A spreader bar having a plurality of position adjustment openings is engaged between the depending legs to lock the fingers and bracket in place. The lower leg ends also provide a plurality of adjustment openings so the spreader bar may be engaged at alternate elevations for accommodating various staging or joist type components and for facilitating the attachment of safety elements.
