  • Patent number: 8739928
Abstract: A truck mounted telescopic boom structure including a stowable jib boom having a stowable personnel basket mounted thereon is described. A mounting structure is provided at the outer end of the innermost boom section of the boom structure and includes means for pivotally moving a work platform or basket between operative and stowed positions. When the boom structure and the jib boom are in their stowed positions, the personnel basket is positioned closely adjacent the jib boom at one side thereof so as to be within the highway width restrictions. The personnel basket is connected to the outer end of the jib boom at all times without the necessity of removing the personnel basket from the jib boom when the jib boom and the boom structure are in their stowed positions. The width of the personnel basket is adjustable between a first collapsed position and an expanded position.

  • Patent number: 8056674
Abstract: A tower boom path is controlled in a boom lift vehicle such that the tower boom nose pin follows a predetermined path. The boom lift vehicle includes a telescoping lift tower boom pivotally coupled at one end to a vehicle base. A main boom is pivotally coupled to the tower boom nose pin at an opposite end of the tower boom. Raising and lowering of the tower boom between a fully retracted position and a raised position is effected by pivoting the tower boom relative to the vehicle base and telescoping the tower boom. The raised position is defined according to any position up to a maximum angle of the tower boom relative to the vehicle base and a maximum boom length. In order to reduce vehicle weight and expedite the tower boom lift function, pivoting of the tower boom relative to the vehicle base and telescoping of the tower boom are performed simultaneously so that the tower boom nose pin follows the predetermined path.

  • Patent number: 6810993
Abstract: An aerial lift apparatus unit includes at least a lower boom pivotally interconnected to a transport unit for raising and lowering of the lower boom. An upper boom is pivotally connected to the outer end of the lower boom for raising and lowering of the upper boom with respect to the lower boom. A single integrated lifting and compensating cylinder unit includes an elongated cylinder with a piston and piston rod journaled in the one end and operable to extend outwardly therefrom. The cylinder defines a dual operating cylinder with a base end from which the piston rod extends and an inner base end extending from the base end and defining an upper boom/compensating unit. A hydraulic control system includes a first hydraulic gated control system for raising and positioning of the upper boom relative to the lower boom.

  • Patent number: 6733227
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an elevating lift for raising and lowering a load (such as a sensor suite) onboard a vehicle, such as a Humvee, which can allow for the transport of the vehicle in a standard transport without removal of the sensor suite from the vehicle, and can provide for a more stable support for the load than is available from a traditional mast. The elevating lift may also able to maintain the load in a parallel position as it is raised, and may be able to lock in a intermediate position where the sensor suite can be used while the vehicle is in motion.
