  • Patent number: 4189029
Abstract: A scaffold device has two leg members having at their upper end spacers to space the legs away from a wall or other structure. Each leg has a support assembly for a platform upon which a worker may stand. The support assemblies comprise a pair of sleeves which can be adjustably secured to the legs, and a pair of rods each having one end pivotally secured relative to their corresponding sleeves, with the other rod ends having lock holes to permit the rod ends to be secured at a position to support the platform level with the ground for safe operation. A cross rail connects each of the legs and acts to maintain the relative position of the legs and also acts as a safety device to prevent workers from falling off the scaffold.

  • Patent number: 4181195
Abstract: A ladder locking device designed for attachment to a frame-mounted ladder. The ladder lock includes a panel dimensioned to cover the front side of the ladder over an area including a plurality of ladder rungs. The upper edge of the panel is bent to form a lip engageable with an upper ladder rung. Attached to a lower portion of the panel is a lock operable to position a locking member into engagement or disengagement with a lower ladder rung, whereby the device is locked to or released from the ladder.

  • Patent number: 4179160
Abstract: A mine life line system utilizing a life line having direction indicating means for indicating, when touched, the direction towards the outside of the mine. The direction indicating means is formed so that as the miner walks towards the outside of the mine, running his hand along the life line, his hand meets little resistance if he is going in the proper direction. The direction indicating means can be an enlargement which is formed integral with or attached to the life line. The enlargement can be formed with a gradual slope on one side along which a hand can easily move when traveling in the right direction, and a stop or abrupt slope, which tends to stop the hand, when traveling in the wrong direction. The direction indicating means and/or the life line can be formed from luminesce or reflective material. A spring loaded reusable support is provided for supporting the life line.

  • Patent number: 4126206
Abstract: A guard to bar access to ladder rungs comprising a first and second rigid sheet pivoted together. The upper sheet has an upper hook to hang over a rung of the ladder. The lower (second) sheet has a joggle which enables a portion of it to pass behind a ladder rung and lock means to lock the second, lower, sheet to a rung whereby the first sheet and a portion of the second sheet bar access to the ladder rungs and the upper hook and the lock means prevent removal of the shield without first releasing the lock means.

  • Patent number: 4043424
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved kneeling apparatus for cement masons which allows substantially unencumbered movement across large expanses of unset cement surfaces while simultaneously providing ample support to eliminate marring and pocking of finished surfaces. The apparatus includes a pair of spaced-apart platforms, each containing peripherally disposed upstanding side walls and an extending handle. Each platform surface is adapted to interchangeably accept the knees or the feet of the user. A mason, while working wet unfinished cement, can shift and otherwise distribute his weight such that one or the other of the surfaces can be lifted and moved by means of the handle, without upsetting or divoting the unset surface.

  • Patent number: 3970170
Abstract: This invention relates to a device useful in connection with bridging two sections of an extension ladder. The device takes the form of a sleeve structure which extends from the side rail of one section of a ladder to co-operate with the side rail of another section of the ladder. The sleeve member is guided and maintained in position by cutouts formed therein which co-operate with ladder rungs. The sleeve member has a cam portion. The invention finds use in connection with facilitating the use of a hoist or the like used with an extension ladder, and provides a smooth track for the usual wheel or roller assembly on which such hoist travels.

  • Patent number: 3968857
Abstract: A shield having a front plate and a pair of side flanges extending rearwardly and outwardly therefrom to a point substantially adjacent a supporting wall or beam substantially encases the ladder and prevents unauthorized use of the ladder. The length of the shield may be considerably reduced by attaching the shield to the ladder at a point above the ground. The front plate is hingedly attached to one of the side flanges and a locking device adjustably mounted on the rungs of the ladder secures the front plate in closed relationship to the face thereof.
