Abstract: A method, and associated apparatus, or applying fluid lubricant to hydrodynamic bearing. Clearance spaces of the bearing which are to be filled with the fluid lubricant are evacuated. The fluid lubricant is then applied to the clearance spaces. Once the fluid lubricant has been applied to the clearance spaces, or concurrent therewith, the clearance spaces are returned to ambient pressure levels. Any pockets of air, or other gas, trapped within the bearing are collapsed as the clearance spaces are returned to the ambient pressure levels. The method is amenable to a high volume, assembly line-like process wherein large numbers of bearings may be filled with the fluid lubricant in a short period of time. A conveyor conveys the bearings into a pool of fluid lubricant in a vacuum tank having a pressure level adjustable between an ambient pressure level and an evacuated pressure level, through the pool of fluid lubricant, beyond the pool, and out of the vacuum tank.

Abstract: An improved lubricating valve for irrigation systems for automatically lubricating the turbine pump of an irrigation system when the turbine pump is running. The valve is configured to receive a pressure line from the pump and to automatically open when the pressure from the pump reaches a predetermined level indicating the pump is running and in need of lubrication. The valve also contains a manual override for manually opening the valve providing lubrication to the pump when extra lubrication is desirable, such as during preseason.

  • Patent number: 5538407
Abstract: Fluid proportions system for proportioning a fluid intermittently at various places. This fluid comes from a storage point and is added by an intermittently operating pump to a proportioner, which feeds a fixed volume of fluid to an outlet more or less independently of the pressure. For returning the reciprocating piston present in the proportioner, use is made of a further fluid which is connected to the proportioner by a further inlet line. A forced return movement of the piston is thereby achieved. Proportioning of fluid is realized by the proportioning fluid itself while return movement in the proportioner of the piston is realized by the control fluid.

  • Patent number: 5495917
Abstract: A solenoid actuated air control valve and a plurality of liquid distribution pumps are mounted on a common elongated manifold having passages for supplying pressurized air and lubricating fluid to the pumps in response to actuation of the solenoid valve. Each of the distribution pumps has an air actuated reciprocating piston, and lubricating fluid is supplied to the manifold and distribution pumps through a line connected to a supply pump also having an air actuated reciprocating diaphragm or piston. The solenoid valve controls the supply pump in timed relation with the distribution pumps, and the supply pump is located within an annular filter unit submerged within a reservoir of lubricating fluid. Each distribution pump is connected by a flexible line to a corresponding spray nozzle having a check valve including a tubular plastic insert which confines a spring bias ball and a resilient annular seat for the ball.

  • Patent number: 5423399
Abstract: A system is disclosed for supplying a lubricant to a bearing assembly, such as that in a gyroscope of a spacecraft. The system includes a housing which is connected to the bearing assembly and which forms a pressurized chamber. A collapsible member, such as a bellows, in the pressurized chamber houses a supply of lubricant. One or more valves regulate and control the flow of lubricant from the collapsible member to the bearing assembly. In response to the actuation of the valves, flow of lubricant is caused by pressure exerted on the collapsible member. Lubricant flow conduits may also be formed within the housing, so that lubricant may be provided directly to a portion of the bearing assembly.

Abstract: A pre-oiler assembly includes a hollow body portion with a hollow float body assembly secured to the lower end thereof. A solenoid operated three-way air valve has one port communicating with the interior of the hollow body, a second port connected to a source of air pressure, and a third port connected to the engine to vent air from the hollow body into the engine. The deactivated position of the air valve connects the first and third ports so as to vent air from an oil chamber within the hollow body, to the engine. The activated position of the air valve connects the first and second ports, such that air under pressure enters the oil chamber to force oil from the hollow body. The float body assembly at the lower end of the hollow body portion has an oil line extending therefrom to the engine to be pre-oiled. A normally closed solenoid operated oil valve is interposed in the oil line, and permits oil passage through the oil line to the engine when activated to the open position.

  • Patent number: 5339924
Abstract: A dosing device for a lubricating mechanism is constructed for discharging a measured volume of lubricant into a component to be lubricated, such as a rotary gear box in an aircraft. For this purpose the dosing device has a housing with a defined volume in which a piston is movable in an axial direction to define two chambers. The end walls of the housing are connected through quick coupling connectors to a lubricant supply and to the component to be lubricated. The device operates in such a way that the filling of one chamber with lubricant under pressure pushes the piston, and thus the lubricant in the other chamber, out into the component to be lubricated. Thus, always a precisely measured volume of lubricant is discharged from one chamber while the same volume is being filled into the other chamber and vice versa. A coupling adapter may be used for a quick reversal.
