Bearing Packer Patents (Class 184/5.1)
  • Publication number: 20040020721
Abstract: In a fluid injection apparatus for a fluid dynamic pressure bearing, which uses a vacuum injection method, a maintenance is made easy and costs for the apparatus and the maintenance are reduced. A sequence control unit closes an injecting valve, subsequently opens a decompressing valve, and starts a vacuum pump. Whereupon, an inside of a fluid dynamic pressure bearing is decompressed. If the inside of the fluid dynamic pressure bearing is decompressed, the sequence control unit closes the decompressing valve, subsequently stops the vacuum pump, and opens the injecting valve. Whereupon, a lubricating oil stored in an injection tank is pushed out by the atmospheric pressure, and injected into the inside of the fluid dynamic pressure bearing being decompressed.

  • Patent number: 6681490
Abstract: A method and apparatus for packing wheel bearings with grease. A frame is provided for supporting an axle assembly comprising an axle shaft with a wheel mounted on a wheel bearing at each end. A horizontally mounted ram and cylinder is mounted adjacent each wheel. Each ram has a greasing head at its distal end and each head has a nose portion adapted to pivot relative to a body portion. Each nose portion has an open-mouthed greasing chamber. Each ram is advanced toward each wheel so that each open-mouthed greasing chamber is in communication with a wheel bearing. Pressurized grease is delivered to a greasing chamber and, therefor, to a bearing.

  • Patent number: 6640933
Abstract: A lubrication system is provided for use with a bearing including an outer race, an inner race, and bearing elements disposed therebetween. Rotation of the bearing and a shaft journaled thereby induces air movement having a first air velocity and a path adjacent the bearing. The lubrication system includes a structure providing a passageway through which a lubricant entrained in gas is delivered at a second velocity to the bearing. The lubrication system further includes a flow modifier disposed relative to the bearing and the structure to modify the first air velocity to promote movement of the lubricant into the bearing.

  • Patent number: 6533363
Abstract: A wheel hub assembly includes a first bearing assembly, a wheel hub, a grease retainer, and a second bearing assembly mounted on a spindle. The grease retainer extends between and in engagement with the first bearing cup, and the second bearing cup. The grease retainer is formed of a resilient material, to maintain the retainer against the bearing cups such that the required grease fill is reduced and prevents grease from escaping the bearing assemblies.

  • Patent number: 6520292
Abstract: A grease bearing packer device includes a cylindrical container filled with grease into which a stem member including a piston and a concave frustoconical bearing support plate are positioned. A cap member with a convex bearing engagement plate is pushed toward the stem member to retain a bearing between frustoconical surfaces so that the assembly may be manually pushed into the grease filled container thereby causing grease to flow into a bearing retained between the plates.

  • Publication number: 20020084145
Abstract: A removable grease dam tool to facilitate proper filling of grease within a wheel hub assembly and a method of using the same. A grease dam is placed adjacent an outer surface of a wheel hub mounted to a spindle. The grease dam blocks at least 50% of the exposed area between the wheel hub and spindle and leaves a top portion open to allow greased to be injected into the inner cavity of the wheel hub. A portion of the grease dam is disposed within the wheel hub between the wheel hub and spindle to simulate the presence of the outer bearing. Once the inner cavity of the wheel hub is filled beyond a 50% fill level, the grease dam is removed and the outer bearing assembly is immediately thereafter installed. The tool prevents leakage of grease during assembly to ensure at least a 50% fill level. A handle is provided to facilitate manipulation by a user.

  • Patent number: 6321875
Abstract: A wheel bearing lubrication sleeve, including a sleeve body and a handle attached thereto. The sleeve body further comprises a shoulder, a sealing ring, a guide shaft, and an angular grease passage with an entrance at the shoulder and an exit at the sealing ring. The device is Inserted into the inner bore of a typical automobile wheel hub until seated on the shoulder after the hub has been removed from the vehicle. When the device has been inserted into the wheel hub, grease can be introduced into the entrance of the grease passage and communicated through the passage to the wheel bearings within the hub, thereby allowing the bearings to be repacked with grease quickly and easily.
