Abstract: A safety brake device at a load receiving means of an elevator installation comprises brake equipment which co-operates with a guide rail of the load receiving means. The brake equipment includes a cam disc, which is rotatable about a cam disc axis and which for activation of the safety brake device is set into a rotation through an activation rotational angle, wherein the cam disc is so designed that the cam disc as a consequence of rotation through the activation rotational angle comes into contact with the guide rail, whereby the guide rail moving relative to the safety brake device when the load receiving means is travelling rotates the cam disc into a position in which the brake equipment and thus the safety brake device produce an intended braking action relative to the guide rail.

Abstract: An exemplary device for preventing travel of an elevator car when a car door is open includes a receiver that remains in a fixed position relative to a hoistway wall. A stop member moves responsive to the car door moving toward an open position such that the stop member engages the receiver to prevent movement of the elevator car when the door is open.

Abstract: An elevator car braking apparatus includes a gear drive assembly for compressing one or more springs which are coupled by a cam follower to one or a pair of brake shoes. When the springs are released from a compressed state, the brake shoes engage and grip hoisting ropes, part of the hoisting apparatus or the car guide rails, within a predetermined time from the start of a brake application cycle. During a brake application cycle, the springs move the cam follower along cam surfaces shaped and disposed to cause the cam follower to move at least one of the brake shoes toward the other brake shoe. The gear assembly includes clutch means for disengaging from and engaging with a gear or axle of the gear assembly during decompression and compression of the springs, respectively. A resilient material in the braking apparatus initially accelerates movement of the cam follower when the springs begin to decompress, and may protect gears of the gear assembly from damage at the end of a brake release cycle.

Abstract: A stopping apparatus for preventing drift of an elevator car stopped at a floor is actuated by a car door panel. The apparatus includes an axle rotatably mounted on the car floor, a radially extending operating arm for contact with an edge of the car door panel, at least one radially extending stop arm and a return spring for retracting the stop arm when the car door panel is closed. As the car door panel is opened, the stop arm is rotated adjacent a stop on the wall of the elevator shaft in which the car travels. If the stop is a recess formed in the shaft wall, a free end of the stop arm cooperates with the recess to prevent drift. If the stop is a floor door threshold, two stop arms are provided to prevent drift superposed above and below the threshold.
