  • Patent number: 7077244
Abstract: An elevator system (20) includes wireless communicating portions (40, 42) that communicate with each other to provide elevator cab (22) position information within a hoistway (24). In one example, a first communicating portion (40) is supported on the elevator cab (22) that generates a radio frequency trigger signal (58) that is received by a second communicating portion (42) at a selected position along the hoistway (24). The second communicating portion (42) responsively generates an ultrasound signal (64) that is received by the first communicating portion (40). A characteristic of the received locating signal, such as the timing between the trigger signal and the receipt of the locating signal, provides position information regarding the cab within the hoistway.

  • Patent number: 6891112
Abstract: A lift system for effecting a vertical parallel movement of a platform relative to a base, in particular for moving a sample changer platform of a sample changer in a weighing system, has at least three substantially identical and mutually interchangeable mechanical lift units supporting the platform. The lift units occupy an at least triangular flexible layout on the base. The lift system is equipped with a drive system that includes a transmission device and a drive element, wherein the transmission device connects the lift units among each other and to the drive element. The arrangement produces a simultaneous vertical movement of the lift units with the platform always staying aligned in a plane that is substantially orthogonal to the gravity force.

  • Patent number: 6886667
Abstract: Position transmitting equipment for ascertaining the position of a rail-guided elevator car includes a code carrier, which is arranged over the car travel path in fixed location on a guide rail with code marks of different permeability. A permanently precise reading of the coding is ensured by the fact that the code carrier is fixedly connected with a non-magnetic cover externally covering the code marks. The code carrier together with the outwardly facing non-magnetic cover are inserted into a receiving groove of the car guide rail, whereby a simple and reliable mounting is achieved and, in addition, temperature-dependent differences in expansion between the code carrier and the guide rail are avoided.

  • Patent number: 6809650
Abstract: A method and a device for determining the state of a rail stretch utilize a receiver that is moved along the rail stretch to receive radio signals transmitted by at least three transmitters mounted in the elevator shaft. Spacing data is determined from the radio signals and is compared by an evaluating unit with reference data of the spacing to generate a result with respect to the state of the rail stretch. The positions of rail fastenings, connecting straps and shaft doors can be detected by additional sensors also moved along the rail stretch and are represented in a correction protocol to permit an efficient adjusting of the rail stretch.

  • Publication number: 20040178024
Abstract: An elevator system includes an elevator car having a car door, a drive unit for moving the elevator car along an elevator shaft wall provided with shaft doors and a controller for controlling movement of the elevator car along the elevator shaft wall. A separate fault detecting device is mounted in a region of each of the shaft doors and in a region of the car door for generating fault information to controller. A status detecting unit generates to the controller status information about a position and a speed of the elevator car. In the case of a fault in the region of one of the shaft doors, the controller permits operation of the elevator car between those floors that can be reached by the elevator car without having to pass the floor at the shaft door where the fault has occurred.

Abstract: A position sensing system, specifically for elevators, comprising at least one sensor which is able to move relative to a transducer for the sensor. According to the invention, a scale is provided as a transducer, to which scale a code (11-15, 19) detectable by the sensor is applied by which the position of the sensor relative to the scale is able to be measured. As a result, it is possible to detect the absolute height of the elevator car, with the result that, depending on the code, a high level of precision may be achieved. In addition, the position sensing system may be employed for automated start-up operation, and the data measured may be utilized both for the control equipment and to meet safety requirements.

  • Patent number: 6785597
Abstract: A process for monitoring load conditions on a lifting machine having a rated load moment includes determining an actual load moment of the lifting machine due a weighted load. The actual load moment may be determined by measuring a tilt pressure within a hydraulic tilt cylinder of the lifting machine, and then calculating the actual load moment from the tilt pressure within the hydraulic tilt cylinder. The location of a center of gravity of the weighted load is also determined by measuring a lift pressure within a hydraulic lift cylinder of the lifting machine, and then calculating the weight of the weighted load from the lift pressure. Once the weight is determined, the location of the center of gravity of the weighted load may be found using the actual load moment and the calculated weight.
