  • Patent number: 8047335
Abstract: A shock-absorbing hitch termination (40) includes a terminating member (52) that moves against a first bias (62) responsive to a first level of tension on a load bearing member (26) associated with a car (22) and counterweight (24) in an elevator system (20). A support member (60) moves with the terminating members (52) against a second, passive bias (70) responsive to increased tension on the load bearing member (26). In one example, the second bias is provided by mechanical springs (70). In another example the second bias is provided by air springs. In still another example the second bias is provided by pressurized actuators (82). The shock-absorbing hitch termination may be supported for movement with the car, counterweight or both. In another example, the shock-absorbing hitch termination is provided in a stationary structure (90) within the elevator system.

Abstract: A traction system includes a composite rope (1), especially for an elevator. The composite rope (1) is driveable by a traction sheave (6). The traction system has a composite rope that is easy to handle, whereby high traction forces can be transferred, and the composite rope enables a narrower drive unit than known belt technology. To this end, the composite rope has parallel individual tension members (4) surrounded by an elastomer material which are interconnected by an elastomer connecting layer (5) on one side, and the tension members (4) engage in corresponding grooves (7) of the traction sheave (6). The penetration depth of the individual ropes (2) of the tension members (4) in the grooves of the traction sheave (6) is at least 25% of the diameter (d) of the individual ropes (2).

Abstract: A fixing point arranged at a guide rail consists substantially of a slide, which is movable along the guide rail and which is guided by guide shoes at the free limb of the guide rail and carries a yoke. A bracket, at which a damping element is supported, is arranged at the guide rail. The end of a belt is held by a connecting element, which in turn is suspended by a tie rod and nuts at the yoke. In the case of an emergency stop situation in which the brake of the drive unit retards the elevator car to standstill, the retardation forces arising in that case are transmitted by belt, connecting element and tie rod to the yoke, wherein the retardation forces produce a displacement of the slide downwardly into the spring-stressed position against the damping capability of the damping element.

Abstract: An elevator system (20) includes a tie-down compensation arrangement (40). A tension member (42) extends between a cab (22) and counterweight (26) to provide a desired amount of tension on a load bearing rope or belt (30) that supports the cab and the counterweight. The tension member (42) in one example comprises a coated steel belt. At least one sheave (46) is supported on a base module (48) and remains stationary relative to a floor of a pit (52). A damper (50) is supported for movement with the counterweight (26) or the cab (22) to absorb energy that would otherwise tend to cause counterweight jump following a rapid descent and stop of the cab (22).

Abstract: The present invention refers to a configuration of the pulleys and ropes so as to obtain the cage (21) suspension of the size ratio type at least equal to 1:2 or greater (1:4, 1:6, 1:8, etc) and the suspension of a balance weight (14) always equal to 1:2 in size ratio, formed such that the path of the balance weight is equal to the path of the cage. The ropes going from the traction pulley (2) towards the balance weight pass between the pulleys placed on the cage and the pulleys (5, 8) placed in the lower portion of the shaft, such that the portion of the size ratio not obtained between the balance weight and the upper portion of the shaft is realized between the cage and the lower portion of the shaft, so as to equalize on the whole the size ratio between the cage and the upper portion of the shaft. Advantageously, the invention can be provided with segmented dowelling of the pulley races and insertion undercut.
