Patent number: 4995483Abstract: This invention provides brake clamping and declamping in response to a position feedback controlled brake actuator in which an electric torque motor drives a rotating member of a reciprocating drive mechanism to axially move another member into out of engagement with a brake pressure plate of a multi-disk brake assembly. A microprocessor controller receives electric signals indicative of (i) a pilot's command for braking, (ii) a command for brake release and antiskid braking, (iii) the position of the torque motor rotor at any instant, and (iv) the initiation of brake clamping of the multi-disk brake. The controller generates a feedback control signal to the torque motor which adjusts the motor rotor position, in revolutions, to increase or decrease brake clamping in accordance with the pilot signal and to effect brake release in accordance with an overriding antiskid signal.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1989Date of Patent: February 26, 1991Assignee: Aircraft Braking Systems CorporationInventors: Douglas D. Patent number: 4202430Abstract: The disclosure relates to a brake actuating mechanism in which a brake applying member is urged to apply a brake by a heavy coil spring. To release the brake a pivoted lever acts on the brake applying member and is moved in a brake releasing direction by an electric motor driven lead screw on which there is a ball-screw nut acting on the lever. Patent number: 4175646Abstract: A hydraulic parking brake with an electric actuator is provided for an automotive vehicle and is adapted for use with a hydraulic brake system in the vehicle. A manually operated switch engages an electric motor which drives a ram to increase hydraulic pressure to force the caliper pads or brake shoes of a brake into engagement with a brake disk or drum. The electric motor is equipped with associated limit switches, which disengage the motor following operation to prescribed limits. A torsion spring is part of the mechanism that activates the hydraulic master cylinder. This spring holds hydraulic pressure within a range of pressure values adequate to hold the brake and still avoid damage to the brake components. This ensures that the electric motor can travel far enough to activate the limit switches.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 1978Date of Patent: November 27, 1979Inventor: Bruce H. Eikelberger

Patent number: 4136304Abstract: A control system for use with a braking mechanism which employs an energy-storing spring and an electric rotating servomotor is disclosed. The system operates employing a direct or indirect measurement of the stored braking force. When an indirect approach is used, a pair of selsyns supply a measured rotational parameter which is related to braking force. After suitable processing, which includes the use of a discriminator and counter, a parameter relating to the stored braking force is compared with a desired value at a summing point to provide a correction parameter for braking control. When direct braking force measurement is used, the measured braking force is supplied directly to a summing point for comparison with a desired value. In both direct and indirect measurement, a differentiator is included which supplies the derivative of the measured value to the summing point. The output of the summing point is a correction parameter which operates triggering devices for brake actuation and release.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1976Date of Patent: January 23, 1979Assignee: Brown, Boveri & Co.
