The piston has a seal between the cylinder and the piston and the piston is movable within the cylinder by a lever operatively associated therewith to selectively pressurize hydraulic fluid within the cylinder by moving the seal between the port and the second end of the cylinder. The hydraulic disc brake system further comprises a caliper in fluid communication with the master cylinder. The caliper has a pair of brake pads operatively associated with a disc received therebetween. The caliper is actuated by movement of the lever in an actuation arc between a rest position and an engagement point with the pads in engagement with the disc.

Abstract: A bicycle brake mechanism includes a body located above a front wheel and a pivotable member is pivotably connected to the body. A hydraulic device is connected to the pivotable member so as to pivot the pivotable member. Two brake arms are located on two sides of the rim and two respective first ends of two link units are respectively connected to two ends of each of the brake arms. The two respective second ends of the links units are connected to two ends of the body. One end of each of the two brake arms is pushed by the pivotable member when the hydraulic device is activated so as to pull the pivotable member. The two link units make the two brake arms to be simultaneously moved to stop the rim.

  • Patent number: 7458443
Abstract: A braking mechanism for actuating a supplemental brake, used in association with a pedal-actuated brake, which increases total brake effectiveness and increases reliability through redundancy as a result of the coaster brake functioning as a back-up to a failed supplemental brake. A brake lever arm is adapted to cooperate with a coaster brake and a bicycle frame to engage a brake cable and operate the supplemental brake when the coaster brake is engaged. During assembly, the brake lever arm is allowed to rotate about an axle, but is limited in such rotation to a selected degree by placement of a limiter cam. Once installed, a distal end of the brake lever arm is permitted limited rotation with respect to the bicycle. A brake cable secured between the brake lever arm distal end and a supplemental brake is disposed linearly a distance sufficient to actuate the supplemental brake.

Abstract: A mechanism for placing a hand operated rear-wheel brake lever of a motorcycle on the left handlebar of said motorcycle. A steel wire is routed from the right foot brake pedal by means of an extension to a small lever found under the clutch hand lever on the left handlebar. When the lever is pulled inward, the wire pulls the right foot brake pedal up, thereby activating the hydraulically operated braking system of the motorcycle's rear wheel without the rider having to use his/her right foot. In this fashion, riders who engage in racing or who are traveling at high speeds have greater precision in their ability to brake the rear wheel of their vehicle.
