On Ground Patents (Class 188/32)
  • Patent number: 10501058
Abstract: A wheel chock (40) has a profile that provides maximum restraining capacity when the wheel (22) is completely supported thereby, by mitigating undesirable failure modes while promoting the safest failure mode of operation, slipping on ground (30). The profile includes a generally flat bottom surface (46) for being in contact with a ground surface (30), a substantially broken top surface (44) for being in contact with the wheel (22), the top surface (44) including a first contact point (P1), a second contact point (P2), and a contact surface (52) there between allowing at most two points of contact at a time between the contact surface (52) and the wheel (22), with the second contact point (P2) being one of the two points of contact. A more specific clothoid profile of the contact surface (52) is preferred to minimize the rate of variation of the contact force of the wheel (22) with the chock (40).

  • Patent number: 10407853
Abstract: A wrong-way vehicle prevention system utilizes a sensor to detect a wrong-way vehicle traveling in a wrong direction on an off-ramp, and activates a disabling portion having a tire-rupture apparatus that ruptures one or more tires of the wrong-way vehicle. An alert portion having a sign, alert lights and/or an audible alert feature may be activated when a wrong-way vehicle is detected and the wrong-way vehicle may stop and turn around before driving over the tire rupture apparatus. The tire rupture apparatus has a rupture plate that extend substantially across the off-ramp and pivots up to raise a rupture portion above the surface of the off-ramp. The rupture portion has a sharp edge that will rupture a tire. The wrong-way vehicle system may alert authorities when a wrong-way vehicle is detected. The wrong-way vehicle prevention system may utilize an integral power supply to enable locating the system in remote areas.

Abstract: A car stop plate includes a stop having a penetrating hole for locking or being penetrated by other tool for retaining; a supporting sheet extending from a lower side to a predetermined distance; widths of the supporting sheet being reduced from an end near the stop to a front end; a length of the supporting sheet being based on a distance from lowest point of a wheel of a car to a foremost or rearmost of the car. In use, the stop resists against a front wheel of a car; the wheel of the car will press the supporting sheet so as to retain the supporting sheet motionlessly. When a driver desires to park a car, the car can be stopped quickly by resisting against the car stop plate in a specific position.

  • Patent number: 8739941
Abstract: Disclosed is a trailer leveling support, comprising a plurality of wedge shaped pads for supporting a trailer parked on an angled surface. The upper portion of the wedge is provided in a flat configuration to allow placement of any trailer accessory, while the base surface is provided at an angle with respect to the upper surface, allowing the base to rest against an angled support surface while the upper surface is positioned in a level configuration. The pads may be stacked to achieve the desired angle based on the trailer support surface. The device also includes a strap for securing the pads together, or to the trailer for added stability. The footprint of the device occupies a sufficient surface area to distribute the weight of the trailer over a larger area to prevent the trailer tongue from sinking into a soft surface.

Abstract: Disclosed is a security device to prevent trailer theft that attaches to the lug thread of a wheel hub to prevent wheel rotation or wheel mounting. The device includes an outer cylinder, an inner cylinder, a locking lug nut that screws onto the lug thread, and a lug nut key. The outer and inner cylinders rotate around and extend beyond the locking lug nut, utilizing a design that defeats many common methods for removing wheel locks, or requires specific tools that create considerable noise and time to defeat. An optional security bar can be engaged by removing two lug nuts to prevent wheel rotation. Also disclosed is an embodiment that prevents wheel installation on a bare wheel hub.

Abstract: A safety stop is provided for stopping a movable member having at least one set of opposed wheels for gripping a rail. The stop has a track on each of opposite sides forming a wedge shape of a narrow end progressively widening to a wide end in a direction of travel of the movable member. With the opposed wheels of the movable member respectively at opposite sides of the wedge shape member, the tracks of the wedge shape member engage and impart a spreading strain to the opposed wheels as the movable member moves in the direction of travel. The opposed wheels of the movable member comprise a deformable material to absorb the kinetic energy of the movable member. The tracks of the stop additionally may have undulating features comprising concave and convex surfaces in the direction of motion.

  • Patent number: 8590673
Abstract: A wheel restraint includes a wheel chock that is manually movable between a retracted position clear of a wheel of a vehicle at a loading dock and an operative position to block the path of the wheel. In the retracted position, the chock can be manually moved freely along a track that is mounted to a driveway of the dock. When the chock is manually moved from its retracted position to its operative position, a locking feature automatically restricts the movement of the chock relative to the track. When the chock is manually moved back to its retracted position, the locking feature automatically disengages. Although the wheel chock is connected to a track, most of the force exerted by the wheel against the chock is transmitted directly from the chock to the driveway.
