  • Patent number: 11953071
Abstract: A fluid-filled vibration damping device including a partition having a housing area, and a movable film housed in the housing area while including a central retainer held by the partition and spoke-shaped retainers extending radially outward from the central retainer. A first surface of the movable film is overlapped on a wall inner surface of the housing area. An elastic deformation zone provided circumferentially between the spoke-shaped retainers is allowed to deform in a direction away from the wall inner surface, and includes a cushion ridge projecting from a second surface of the movable film while extending radially outward from the central retainer. A height of the cushion ridge is varied in a direction of extension such that a timing of contact with an opposing wall inner surface in the housing area varies depending on an amount of deformation of the elastic deformation zone.

Abstract: Provided is a liquid-filled vibration isolator through which durability of an elastic movable body can be improved. In a case that a liquid pressure of liquid passing through a second orifice P2 is exerted to an outer circumference portion 12 of an elastic movable body 10, whole of the outer circumference portion 12 deforms so as to bend. Based on deformation of the outer circumference portion 12, a first valve portion 13 and facing surfaces 81c, 91c mutually contact or separate. Thereby, the communication state and the blocking state of the second orifice P2 are switched. Since it can be restrained that stress is concentrated in a part of the outer circumference portion 12 by wholly bending the outer circumference portion 12, cracks are less likely to occur in the outer circumference portion 12.

Abstract: A hydraulic shock absorber includes a hollow cylinder which defines therein a fluid chamber filled with a working fluid, and a piston which is reciprocally disposed within the fluid chamber and divides the fluid chamber into upper and lower chambers. The piston is formed with fluid passages for establishing fluid communication between the upper and lower chambers. Each of the fluid passages is controlled by a disk valve assembly comprising a plurality of elastic disk plates, so as to introduce the working fluid from one of the upper and lower chambers to the other chamber when fluid pressure in one of the chambers is greater than a predetermined value. The disk valve assembly has a bypassing fluid passage which has a plurality orifices configured so as to gradually decrease fluid pressure and flow velocity of the working fluid passing therethrough.

Abstract: Magnetorheological (MR) fluid dampers are optimized. Dimensional relationships involved in the flow of magnetic flux are related to an operational parametric ratio of magnetic flux density in the fluid to the flux density in the steel. A magnetic valve is utilized to change the flow parameters of the MR fluid and, hence, the operational characteristics of the damper. Several embodiments depicting improved piston designs, including spool as well as toroidal configurations, are disclosed. In addition, both single and twin-tube housing designs are presented.

A pair of fluid chambers are selectively interconnectable by one of a plurality of inertia tracks by use of an adjustable cylindrical member which has the tracks formed as generally helical grooves extending about the periphery of the cylindrical member. Abstract: A shock absorber comprises a piston and piston rod assembly mounted for reciprocation in a cylinder, the piston dividing the cylinder into upper and lower chambers, a floating disk valve slidably disposed in a fluid reserve chamber of the piston for movement between first and second positions to selectively open and close fluid passages associated with the assembly to vary the resistance to damping fluid moving through the assembly and between the chambers, and a solenoid-plunger for regulating the flow of damping fluid between the chambers. The disk valve movement is controlled by the solenoid-plunger and when the disk is in a first position augments flow between the upper and lower chambers to provide "soft" compression and rebound strokes and when the disk is in a second position restricts flow between the upper and lower chambers to provide "firm" compression and rebound strokes.

Abstract: A pressure-operated valving arrangement for a piston assembly of the type used in a direct-acting shock absorber is disclosed. Bi-directional primary and secondary flow paths are provided for regulating the damping forces generated during both rebound and compression strokes. During rebound, a pressure differential generated across a moveable valve disc operates to regulate fluid flow from an upper to a lower portion of the shock absorber's working chamber. A pilot orifice in the valve disc and a bleed slot associated with a rebound blow-off assembly are sized to generate the desired pressure differential across the valve disc. Manipulation of the size ratio permits universality of design for economical shock absorber manufacture.

  • Patent number: 4993524
Abstract: According to an illustrative example of this invention, the piston of a hydraulic oscillation damper is provided with a traction valve, i.e. a valve which is intended to damp the outward movement of the piston rod. This traction valve includes two valve discs and a valve member. The valve member is biased towards a closed position and urges the valve discs against a valve face of the piston. In response to a predetermined pressure difference between the two working chambers on both sides of the piston, a flow passage is opened by lifting the valve discs and the valve member from the valve face. Below said predetermined pressure difference, a preliminary restricted flow passage exists. This preliminary restricted flow passage extends in series across the radially inner circumferential edge of a first valve disc adjacent to the piston and through radially inner edge recesses and through radially outer edge recesses of a second valve disc adjacent to the first valve disc.
