Rotary Cam Operatively Abutting Band Ends Patents (Class 188/339)
  • Patent number: 8887878
Abstract: An anchor assembly is provided that permits adjustment of the brake shoes in a drum brake to account for wear. The assembly includes first and second adjuster shafts each having a plurality of threads and first and second pilot connectors. The pilot connectors each have a plurality of threads in engagement with the threads of a corresponding adjuster shaft. The pilot connectors each engage one end of a corresponding brake shoe. Rotation of each adjuster shaft causes longitudinal movement of a corresponding pilot connector in engagement with a corresponding brake shoe along an axis to adjust a position of the brake shoe.

  • Patent number: 8490759
Abstract: A drum brake (10) is provided which has a pair of brake pads (12), each pad being moveable generally radially outwardly into contact with a brake drum by a respective operating lever (14) which is acted on at one end by a brake applying means (15) and pivoted (16) at the other end from a backplate (11). Each pad is contacted by a portion (14c) of the respective operating lever intermediate the lever ends and is moved radially outwardly between a pair of circumferentially spaced abutments (45) which extend generally perpendicular to the backplate (11) and which react braking torque when the brake is applied. The required pad to drum clearance is established by knock-back of the drum on the pads (12).

  • Patent number: 6705439
Abstract: A brake shoe assembly (1) for a drum brake, the brake shoe assembly being a single-piece construction and including a brake shoe (2) of generally circular form having two separate and opposed ends (17, 18), and defining a pair of friction lining mounting sections (11, 12) disposed on opposite sides of the brake shoe (2). The friction lining mounting sections (11, 12) have a T-shaped cross-sectional form defining an arcuate, radially outer platform (15) for mounting a friction lining (16) and a radially inwardly extending web (14). The brake shoe (2) including hinge means (27, 28) between the lining mounting sections (11, 12), facilitating pivoting movement of the lining mounting sections (11, 12), to alter the separation between the brake ends (17, 18) between a brake operative condition in which in use, the friction lining (16) engages a braking surface of a drum to which the brake shoe assembly (1) is fitted, and a brake inoperative condition in which there is no such engagement.

  • Patent number: 6422362
Abstract: Disclosed is a brake device for at least one axle of a wheel of a vehicle such as a bicycle for braking a brake drum which is connected to the wheel, having a brake carrier, a shoe element, a brake lever with a cam which is arranged between two shoe ends of the shoe element and is preloaded in that area. The shoe element is connected to the brake carrier by a holder and the cam is connected to the brake lever without a bearing, by means of which it can be pivoted. The brake device according to the present invention has the advantage that it can be produced mechanically in large numbers in a simple manner, its characteristics can be influenced by design measures, and it has a high level of efficiency, so that reduced actuating forces result and possibly simplified actuating elements may be used.

  • Patent number: 4682749
Abstract: An adjustable copyholder comprises a base and a cantilever arm having a plurality of cantilever arm segments attached thereto, and a copy support plate mounted at the free end of the cantilever arm. The cantilever arm is connected pivotally to the base. The cantilever arm segments are connected pivotally with each other. The copy support plate is connected pivotally to the cantilever arm. The pivot joints used to extend the cantilever arm have single pivot axes which are parallel to each other, horizontal and transverse to the cantilever arm, wherein these pivot joints are manually adjustable, at least controllable frictionally, the pivotability of the cantilever arm segments connected pivotally with each other being associated with a securing mechanism for each pivot joint.
